After charging my MX-880 for 12 hrs/day for the past 4 days it will only hold a charge for about 20 minutes then go into an endless reboot cycle until i plug it in. It works fine when plugged into the wall.

Any suggestions about what I can do to get my current battery working again?

Or if not, a good place to get a replacement?

Thanks!

A battery should not discharge after 7 months of use unless subjected to extreme temperatures (see manual for tolerances). Where did you purchase it? You should be under warranty and not have to pay for another battery after only 7 months.

This is common with that battery. Call URC and see if they'll send you a new battery. Or you can buy a Fuji NP-60 camera battery for a few dollars and replace it yourself. Some here have reported good results with the UltraLast NP-60 battery.

Who is the manufacturer of the battery (printed on the battery0?

My house is currently in shambles as I just moved a few days ago, so it might take some time to get my invoice, etc together to go through URC, replacing might be a better option at this point.

Does this seem like it would be the battery causing the issue.. As far as I can see that's what it seems like to me.

I will check out who the batter manufacturer is when I get home from the office in about an hour and report back.

I'm not sure if URC got a bad batch, but I've replaced 5 or 6 of these batteries that had the same problem you report. This battery is used in the 980, 880 and 800. I usually just find a cheap replacement on the internet, as I'm lazy and it's faster than calling URC's tech line.

Either contact you local rep/distributor, or call URC direct and they will replace "Roofers" at no cost to you.

I just went and grabbed an Ultralast UL-NP60 for $30 at RadioShack a few hours ago and it seems to be holding its charge. Plus it has a 2 year warranty so ill be sure to save my receipt and the packaging

I hate to spend the money on it, but its been painful not being able to use the remote. I wouldn't be able to go the week + that it would take to get a replacement from URC or order online for about half the cost!

Here's something most people never think about, having the charging cradles/plugs plugged into a surge protector. The circuitry inside a remote isn't that robust, and a decent surge can take it out while leaving the rest of the house untouched. Do you lights flicker when the AC turns on? Something as small as that can cause damage to sensitive electronics, like a remote or cell phone plugged in to the wall.

good point.. I have always had my remote plugged into a surge protector.. and I'm sure that most with an advanced home theater and remote do the same..

That is definitely not the cause of my problem though.. with the new battery my remote is working perfectly

Has anyone had any issues using the remote's charging cradle with these aftermarket batteries? Or do you use a charger made specifically for the battery?

The MX-880 doesn't have a recharging cradle.

Incidentally, the battery is lithium-based, so for the longest life, don't recharge it until it needs it. Lithium batteries have a limited number of recharge cycles, and every time you do even a small amount of charge, the life of the battery is one step closer to completion. My MX-880 battery easily lasts me two weeks on a charge, so I wait until I'm down to the last battery segment before I recharge.

Best regards,
Dale

Oh, I have an MX-950. I just posted in this thread because the two remotes appear to use the same battery. Didn't realize the MX-880 didn't have a cradle. The battery in mine doesn't hold a charge more than a few hours, and I need to replace it. Just wondering if I can use an aftermarket li-ion battery (like the NP-60) with the 950 cradle.
