It would be that simple. I would bet URC has a record
of what serial numbers went to what dealers. All they
need to do is buy one from a big ebay seller and match
the serial number to who they sold it to and revoke their
dealer status. Do that a couple of times and it will
fix 90% of the problem.

They can't do much about end-users selling used remotes
on ebay.

That's a great idea, but you still don't address the other part of the argument. Militantly protecting CIs from competing in the market is only a temporary solution. And again, the people buying from eBay are probably not going to buy from you anyway.

URC has a very strick policy about buying from an authorized dealer. An authorized dealer will discount the remote and provide you with the lastest software and upgrades in the future. Without the support your dead in the water. Good luck to you

the bottom line here is the OP went and bought an expensive item without doing his homework 1st.

SHAME ON HIM, he deserves EXACTLY what he got.

and SHAME on s/one that goes and sends him SW now... i realize he did a good "whoa is me, i'm such a poor little victim" dance, but lets face it, he's just another cheap SOB looking to cut into s/one elses livelyhood just to save a buck.

Folks:

Good arguments have been made on both sides regarding the OP's situation. But we're starting to turn this thread into a rehash of the dreaded "million post thread" that Daniel specifically decreed that we drop.

With respect to both sides of the argument, can I ask nicely that we move on from the topic? The thing I've always enjoyed about Remote Central is the sense of community we have here. This topic has proven in the past to get really unpleasant really fast.

As a URC employee, I of course have an opinion about this. But the long thread that Daniel shut down made it clear that no one's opinion is going to "win" this debate. So I ask nicely and respectfully that we all agree to disagree.

I truly believe we'll all enjoy Remote Central most that way. Of course, your own course of action is up to you.

Respectfully,
Dale

I just still check this thread and I'm shame I started this.
But I just want to clarify something, Stealth X you're right I have'nt done my homework but before that incident, I've tryed to figure out which remote was good for me, the harmony 890 was'nt. I've check out this URC forum and realize the MX-980 was perfect. (at this point I never even thought about not getting the SW)

1st: I don't have the remote yet, I just won't accept the delivery. I'm sticking to my point and if it don't work I will have learn my lesson. (It's sometimes expensive to learn!)

2nd: I never got the SW... (I wish I had but I did'nt)

3rd: I started this thread with one wish, find a way to get out of the mess I got myself in! I started this to look what my options were not to have the people thinking: "whoa is me, i'm such a poor little victim"

I don't blame nobody, but because the seller is sending me a remote that will not work, I'll try to dispute the charges. It have been sent 2 weeks ago and I can't track it on USPS site and there is no updates since march 21st. Could be convinient not getting it, the charge woul be easier to dispute.

Anyway if you think I just got what I deserve it's your point and I respect it. But I have learn one thing: Next time I'm buying something expensive, I'll make sure I know everything I should before I get my hands on it.

I agree with Dale this thread should stop. Thanks to all those who helped me and to everyone else, no sore feelings I understand some of you are authorized dealers that sells and proggram this remotes for a living.

Thanks again,
Gui.

lol... Like you've never price shopped or tried to get a deal on something. I agree he's getting what he should have and the auction holder is getting screwed, but IMO you're way over the top in regards to his attitude.

Everything alright Stealth...? You've had quite the short fuse as of late.

sorry smoking were you somehow trying to add something to this thread, or are you genuinly concerned with my well being? if the latter please send me a PM in the future.

the OP has kindly asked we let this thread die, and i think we should respect that.
