I'm a bit confused about what works and what doesn't work on Vista. I have several 850s that I've been programming for years now using the Complete Control Suite. I had to replace my laptop with a new one that uses Vista.

I downloaded the Complete Control Suite, but each time I try to install it, I get the following message: "Couldn't get process information from remote machine."

I've been reading that there is no problem with the 850s on Vista because the 850 doesn't use Active Sync. But obviously mine still isn't working. Is my problem a different one than everyone else is waiting for?

Jim,
Complete Control is not a problem on Vista (except 950, there is a 3000 workaround). In your case, make sure your using Admin Account and you do a liveupdate. This error message ("Couldn't get process information from remote machine") is from the version of .NET Framework you are using.

Fix: Do a Windows update / select Custom and dowload everything microsoft say you should download

Let us know if this helps....

Well, I am still unable to open the Complete Control Suite. I can open the 850 Editor, but when I try to live update that, I get the following message from the MX Editor: "Fail to save patch file" and the update stops without finishing.

Turn off "user access control" feature of Vista and it will work.

Or, when wanting to Live Update, just open the app by right-clicking and select "Run as Administrator".

Where do I turn off User Access Control? In Control Panel?

I am the Administrator, yet Vista treats me like any other schlub. I have to get permission from myself every time I want to do something.

Jim,
Go to Control Panel / User Account / Click on your account / Click User Access Control / uncheck to turn it off and you wont have those annoying messages to confirm or cancel...... restart and liveupdate should be set.

The funny thing is, they changed it in Vista so that not everyone is an administrator to try and help stop some of the viruses that were going around with XP, since you had to be an admin to install most stuff, and everyone was an admin by default. Now they get rid of that, and yet everyone wants to go back to that way. Just more Microsoft logic at it's best :)

Thanks for the help, everyone. That did it! I'm looking forward to a peaceful coexistence with Vista from now on.

I installed mx editor on our vista comp, no problem... but you'll need a serial parallel usb adapter. The radio shack one works great and its only 20 bucks.

I have to say that vista has done nothing but irritate me, which is why i purchased a new macbook, and am currently running osx and windows xp simultainiously. All my windows applications work flawlessly and I couldnt be happier with my hardware.
