Strengths:1) GREAT value on sale at RadioShack for $69!!!
2)Good learning function
3)Controls EVERYTHING
4)Contructed very well.
Weaknesses:1)Needs more memory to learn functions from non-mainstream company's remotes.
2)Reacts to easily to vibrations from subwoofer.
3)Occassionaly have to press a button a couple times.
Review: I usually only do Radio Shack for cables & adapters, so I was kinda skeptical due to the lack of a major name-brand, but after sitting down for a half hour of initial programming & reading of the manual, I knew right away that I got a great deal, especially considering the $31 I saved due to the sale.
This remote replaced about 7 others, including my Xbox remote, and my rarely supported KLH 5.1 receiver. Unfortunate-ly, I had to use the "learn" function, whcich eats up precious memory from the unit. I did have to leave out some func-tions, but it learned the most important ones from both devices.
It also flawlessly controls my Sansui TV,Motorola cablebox, RCA 5-disc changer, Panasonic VCR and EVEN my Aiwa CX-Na888 bookshelf system, and I've NEVER had a universal that could access even ONE function on it before!
It feels very durable, and could probably take a couple good drops, so long as nothing hits the screen...has a very good weight to it.
It's nit-picking, but it has a tilt-sensitive power on that often reacts to vibration from my 120-Watt RCA Subwoofer. Don't know if other remotes suffer from this, but there's no control for sensitivity...only worries me because it must be battery-draining, as the unit is VERY well back-lit...a nice blue color, and easy to see in the dark.
In short...if you want to spend less than a hundred bucks, and have many devices to control...GET THIS REMOTE!
