Strengths:IR/RF
Weaknesses:No learning feature
Review:I liked the remote a lot but unfortunately the right and up cursor buttons on this remote did not work on my RCA DSS and they are very important to me so I returned it in exchanged for the 15-1994.

Strengths:GREAT ALL AROUND REMOTE, REPLACES EVERYTHING, COMPATIBLE WITH ALL OF MY PEICED TOGETHER HOMEAUDIO/VIDEO SYSTEM. GREAT RANGE WITH REMOTE. BEST TECH SUPPORT OF ALL. FAIRLY CHEAP!
Weaknesses:BATTERIES SEEMED TO DIE ABOUT ONCE EVERY 4 MONTHS, REMOTE NOT FOR THE NOVICES.
Review:I'VE HAD THIS REMOTE FOR ABOUT 7-8 MONTHS NOW AND CAN'T SAY A NEGATIVE THING ABOUT IT, OTHER THAN MAYBE NOT GETTING A YEAR OUT OF THE BATTERIES. GOT IT ON SALE FOR$39 AT THE "SHACK" AFTER COMPARING IT TO THE PRODUCERS, HALF THE WEIGHT, FITS BETTER IN YOUR HAND AND HALF THE PRICE! IF YOU LISTEN TO PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DIFFICULTY OF THIS REMOTE THAN THESE BIG DO-ALL REMOTES ARENT FOR YA! VERY IMPRESSED. NOW LETS SEE HOW LONG THIS THING WILL LAST.

Strengths:RF capability, large code library, backlighting, price (on sale $49)
Weaknesses:documentation, no learning capabilities
Review:I purchased this remote to serve a very specific scenario: remote control of a 400 cd changer and amp from outside the house. The unit comes packaged with a rf/ir receiver/converter that must be placed in the line-of-sight of the components to be controlled. If they are behind a closet door, a small emitter (included) can be used to route the signal from the converter to the component.

The remote allows me to change discs, adjust volume, mute the sound, etc., all while sitting outside on the patio, approximately 50 feet from the room the components are kept in. It will also make those changes if I'm at the back of the yard, about another 100 feet from the patio, although it often takes more than one key-press to accomplish the task from that distance. When you figure that this was a cheaper alternative ($49 vs about $800) to hardwiring a controller out on the patio, if it works at all it makes it a pretty good value. The fact that it also functions as a very good remote for all my other equipment (including x10 control), the value just shoots through the roof.

At the risk of making a sexist comment, I have to tell you guys that the wife approval factor in my investment in audio became very high after purchasing this remote. She loves the fact that we're not running in and out to change the volume level each time we play a new cd. Since we spend a great deal of time outside, this was a pretty significant gain. Hope this helps everyone.

Review 1 made on Thursday August 24, 2000 at 11:12 PM.
Strengths:Great design
Advanced code programming
IR/RF extender
LCD display
Weaknesses:No learning ability
Expensive
Misplaced SURROUND and SELECT buttons
Review:This remote may look like the 15-1994, but don't be fooled, it's not the same remote. There's no learning ability with this baby and it costs $70 when not on sale. Forgedda bout it!

Plus, just like the Producer 8 remotes, they put the SURROUND button in the middle of the menu arrows and the SELECt button off to the side. Stupid!
