After carefully analyzing our current forum structure, I realized that there was no single place where a shopper could post asking for advice on multiple remote controls.

They could cross-post in different on-topic forums (something I do not recommend) for remotes that they may already be favoring, but if someone needed a helping hand to get started from square one... well, there was only the Home Theater or Other Remotes forums, neither of which were originally intended for that function.

So, here it is - the ever-so-clearly named "Which Remote Should I Buy" forum, a place for everyone to post asking for recommendations on a universal remote that will suit their needs, and for all other members that would like to help guide them to the perfect control.

When posting, remember that you'll greatly assist anyone trying to help by providing a list of your current AV equipment, exactly what you would like or expect your new remote to do, and how much you want to spend.

EXCELLENT! A much needed forum that I'm sure will be used extensively!!! Thanks, Daniel!!!

Please make note of the last paragraph in Daniel's first post (which is also mentioned in the forum heading above). It will help US all greatly in helping YOU to find the perfect remote for you and whomever else uses it in your home.

Also, keep the Clicker Picker in mind to help you narrow things down as well, and the User Reviews section.

With this forum, and those two areas, a need has been addressed!!!

Thanks, D!

It is also helpful, at least in my opinion, to state whether or not you wish to program the remote yourself and your level of experience in such fields or whether you wish to buy it programmed. Example: I'd probably recommend a URC over a Pronto to a DIY'er.

Thanks, Daniel! Should keep the posts ("remote reccomendation please" etc.) out of the Home Theater and CI Lounge forums.

Hey Daniel,
It might be a good idea to move some of the "Which remote..." threads from the other forums over to this one.
Rob.

Thank goodness I checked this thread, since I woke up from an afternoon nap and thought I must have been hallucinating last night when I posted the "Check out the new forum...." in a few posts in the "Other Remotes" forum and now find that they are all over here!!!

Whew! ;-)

Great idea!

It allows me the chance to offer help again ;-)

As previously stated, an equipment list would help, as well as what you wish to acheive.

Hi Folks, I'm new to your site, and have come here to ask for your recommendations for an inexpensive universal remote for our bedroom AV setup. I just replaced a 13 year old 35" Proton Tube TV with a Westinghous 37" 1080P LCD Monitor (LVM-37w3). The monitor is connected to a Comcast HDTC set top box (Motorola DCT 3412). I also have a Sony DVD player and a Harman Kardon Receiver (AVR125). In the Future, I am planning to add an HTPC running Windows XP media center and having remote control. I also want to replace the Sony DVD player with the Samsung DVDHD960, whic is capable of upconverting to 1080P.

I would like to find a remote that can control these devices (LCD, Cable, DVD,HTPC and Receiver), is relatively convienient to use and costs no more than $100 dollars. The Westinghouse LCD seems to need a learning remote, because I have been unable to find any codes for it.

I would greatly appreciate your recommendations. Thank You!

Looking for a remote that I can program using a Mac, and which will control the equip stored in a hard wood entertainment center behind closed doors. Done a fair amount of research but am not really sure whether many of the features are things that I never will use. Would like to keep it under $200

Equipment:
Samsung HLS5687w
Directv H20
Xbox 360
Oppo 970h
Onkyo TX-sr674 receiver
Sony (old) CD player

for people to ask for recommendations?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. By starting your own thread in this forum we can respond specifically to your needs. This was an introductary thread to this section.

This forum section, not this thread, is for recommendations.
