Why not just up-sell to a T2+?

Wish I could but not all jobs or Clients will pay for more. Also I don't like the bait and switch sales technique. As for now I am going to stop selling the M2 until RTI comes out with a better solution.

Have others that are seeing this problem been reporting it directly to RTI?

Yes I just called this morning. I have two M2's in use and they both eat batteries. I was less than pleased as they initially reported a bad batch, know they say to reduce backlight to 10 sec. and to only use the light button to turn on the light.

I have at least two hours in replacing these units and know they are asking me to spend more time to reprogram them! Will it work? I dout it!

No more M2's for me!

Yes, I got the same response - reduce timeout to 10 sec. or less, and make the back-light manual. Kind of defeats the true usability of the M2 in a darkened living room.

Plus, from what I've seen so far, I'm still only getting 1.5-2 weeks. So their suggestion doesn't really help. And this is after having two replacements sent out, one just recently.

RTI has openly acknowledged to me that there is a problem with a transistor which causes the short battery life.

I had five M2's in one project and had RTI replace them all with newer or modified units.

It is a great remote for the money, just get it replaced and not just with AVAD. You have to go direct because AVAD may have the older first gen. product on the shelves still and you will be in the same place.

Chris, was this a recent finding (on the transistor)? Because as of two weeks ago, Peter from RTI made no mention of this and simply told me to decrease the backlight timeout and turn off the tilt switch. What kind of battery life are you seeing now? Can you keep the M2 on automatic backlight?

Also, the last M2 replacement I got was directly from RTI and they sent that to me about 1 month ago. That unit still has the short battery life.

Look, it is simply not acceptable to have batteries go out after a couple weeks no matter what they tell you. They know there is a problem and they must replace it for you. At first they tried to tell me about the backlight setting but you should be able to have the backlight set to whatever you want. I always use the longest setting, 60 sec.

I love RTI and use a shitload of their products and I know Peter well, good guy but he should be taking care of this for you like he did for me. Maybe just press a little harder.

The new units are working fine now.

I've read through the threads. I received my 1st M2 as soon as AVAD received them. I'm on my 6th remote right now and I'm ready to give up. RTI did send me a replacement which had a very loud whine when the back light was on so I didn't get to test the battery life. AVAD did all the other exchanges.

I have not heard anthing conclusive from RTI. I read about the transistor problem but RTI never mentioned this to me and I've called many times. I'm going to return and wait for them to solve the problem.

I spoke with Peter again on Friday. He said it was a resistor, not a transistor, that was causing a small reduction in battery life (like 2% he said) in the first 200 units built. I have a "newer" unit now, and I'm still only seeing two weeks of use. Peter had nothing else to offer. I guess I'll just wait this out.

The next one will be a capacitor.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
