Hi there, I am new to the forum, and I need some advice. I am looking to upgrade from my current AV receiver, a Yamaha RX-V1. The reason for my desire to upgrade is that the RX-V1 seems a bit too bright with my current speakers (Paradigm Monitor v7.2 - fronts, Paradigm Monitor cc-370v2 center and Paradigm Monitor ADP-370 surrounds). Can anyone suggest an AVR or a seperates solution that would warm up my sound and provide decent proformance on both music and movies? The price range I am looking in for this solution would max out at $2500.00 USD. Thanks in advance.

I would look at the RX-V2500 with a MX-850 remote. It'll set you back $1,400+T total. Do you have a sub? I would look at possible room causes of the brightness. Tile, hardwood, lots of glass?

I do have a sub. I have tried treating the room as best as I can, rugs on the hardwood, curtains on the windows. I think the brightness is just a characteristic of the Paradigms. Several reviews I have read of the monitor series have commented that they tend towards a brighter sound, the same has been said of the RX-V1 as well.

For a single box solution look at the new Arcam AVR300 (about 2000
USD) it tends to be rather neutral sounding and may be the best 7.1 receiver for music

Hi,

Can't go wrong with Harman/Kardon. Very smooth, warm, and detailed. I have the excellent multi award winning AVR8500, but unfortunately it's no longer being made. (you might still find some around). The new AVR7300 is also getting rave reviews, but I guess it all comes down to budget and power you desire. The Acram series is also good, with similar warm sound to the Harman/Kardon range.
Goodluck.

Paul
