I do have a sub. I have tried treating the room as best as I can, rugs on the hardwood, curtains on the windows. I think the brightness is just a characteristic of the Paradigms. Several reviews I have read of the monitor series have commented that they tend towards a brighter sound, the same has been said of the RX-V1 as well.
