I have an average home theatre setup which includes a Mitsubishi 50", Mitsubishi SVHS player, Denon DVM3700 DVD/CD, Harmon Kardon AVR65 receiver, Techniques direct drive turntable and Digital satelite system.

Needless to say, I have several remotes and would like to consolidate all of them into one.

I am computer literate but, not a programmer. What remote would you recommend? The satelite remote has a large number of functions which I use on a regular basis. On the other hand, my wife is always complaining she can't use the system the way she wants. This means, I want to turn it on and watch the TV!

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Rocco C

Rocco,

If you want a remote that will truly handle everything for you, I would suggest a Philips Pronto or Madrigal IRIQ (AKA - Harman Kardon Take-control, etc)

The Pronto is unquestionably the better of the two, but will take much longer to program.

The IRIQ is easily programmed, and almost all existing brands are pre-programmed.

The Remote control forum will tell you that the Pronto is the only way to go, and I would agree as long as you are comfortable programming it. The unit is entirely customizable, so you can really make it do exactly what you want.

Both of these units allow for Macro programming, which will simplify the use of your system substantially.

These units may seem expensive at first look, but every one of my customers that have one would not part with it now.

Good Luck Derek

Check out the "Amazing Discovery" thread here on Radio Shack's 15-1994 remote. It handles 6 devices, preprogrammed for most brands, macros and learning on any button, and it's backlit. You can try it out for $29.99 and return it within 30 days if it doesn't do what you want. It's a no brainer.

Or a Cinema7 by ONEforALL from Best Buy, Sears, or Circuit City. The last one I bought was $16.50. It'll handle 7 devices, has no backlight but the uniquely shaped and logically placed keys are easy to identify by feel in the dark. It can both learn or have a macro put on (nearly) any key. I had a Pronto first, and love it. My Cinema7 was bought to see if it could be modified into an X10 activated IR macro controller. It can. It also turns out that it replicates about 90% of the functionality I have with my pronto. Both are in the Home Theater room. The Cinema gets used most often, by both my wife and myself.

I just bought a Sony RMAV-2000 and this remote is great for what I have(Mitsubishi 61", Sony S300 DVD player and an Onkyo TX-DS747 AV receiver along with a Sony SVHS player that I dont use)but for the money you cant beat it. Of course the Pronto is a better remote but for $300.00 it better be I found the RMAV-2000 at J&R Music for 1$100.00. with the rebate from Brandnamesforless.com I got free shipping and a
$30.00 rebate. Check out the remotes forum and you will see the post by Jimmy read the post for details. The remote is so cool it is touch pad and controls up to 17 pieces of equipment with macros included in programming. Hope this helped.

Depends on how much you want to spend....I have a Marantz RC5000 and it addressed my single biggest issue...toooooo many remotes....I am not a programmer and have spent some time setting up my remote so my wife (not a programmer) can work our AV system. Programming will take some time, though there are lots of samples to download from here and you are not starting from scratch.

The RC5000 offers a better warranty than the Pronto, though I believe it is more expensive...I strongly recommend it.

I have a magnavox big screen mod#FP4620 W103,A magnavox VCR mod.#VRT362 AT01 and an RCA dish system. I need one remote to operate all. I 'm not a programmer. Surely there is a good remote available from say Radio Shack, Best, etc.that a novis can use almost off the shelf. I've read about the Pronto but that sound way more serious for me, any recommendation w/b appreciated.
