Not trying to start a Holy war on this ;) Which one? Denon avr-382,482 or Onkyo TX-DS898. THX or no THX

Denon all the way. I have the 4802. The 3802 is a better bargain if you can live without the THX logo and Atkis crap remote.

Hmmm, the 3802 only has three digital inputs, I am using two on my current one but I am thinking of getting some type of MP3 player or console. So from what I can tell the 4802 has some extra digital inputs and supports THX is there any other differences. I have a pronto remote so the remote is no big deal. On the 4802 is the remote programable for other devices?

I prefer the Onkyo, Better sound and easier to operate.

The Onkyo is a THX Ultra system, and currently has ProLogic 2, DTS-ES (or is it EX, or both?!) and DTS Ne0 6.1, and is fully upgradeable for more. It sounds amazing, although I haven't directly compared it to the Denon.

I would guess, too, that models manufactured since last summer also have the "fan" problem fixed: the original setting for the fan was way too high, causing it to be audible when soundtracks are very quiet. And there is a hardware fix available for free for older units.

It is a truly powerful and pure sound, and the setup menu lets you customize it to death. ... Mike

I have the 898, chosen over the 2 Denon's in question. So I guess I like that better. Ease of operation (Aktis??!!) and price vs the 4802 were my final factors. Also the front panel input, a must at my house.

IMO, the 3802 was a poor choice for Denon. They simply upgraded the 3801 with new software, little more. I think a slightly different amp section. The major gap between it and the 4802 didn't have to be so big. The 4802 was a huge improvement over the 4800.

But I just want to clarify: the 3802 has 4 digital inputs (not 3), one output. The 4802 has 8 inputs, 2 outputs. The 4802 really has enough inputs to make anybody happy, if only it had one on the front.

I also wen't through this and in the end chose the denon 3802 mainly because of it having 7 chanels as with the onkyo 787 only having 6 chanels, I am not sure if the 898 has 6 or 7 chanels, so this may be something else to consider.

I chose the 3802 because it allowed 2 channels to be split off for another room, in my case the patio, with a different source.

Another consideration. Are you planning to use the receiver for component video switching? If so the Denon, at least the 3802, doesn't have the bandwidth for a HD signal. The Onkyos do. I have enough inputs on my TV so it wasn't an issue for me.

I'm quite happy with my 3802.

The 898 has 7 channels. The 797 has 6 channels. The 898 can use 2 channels for Zone 2. The 797 cannot use an amp for this, but does have Zone 2 line outputs.

I just bought a Onkyo 898, luv it.

FYI - denon 3802 component video switching is only 27 Mhz, not enough for HDTV, 50 Mhz

Onkyo is true THX 7.1, Denon ??
The denon 4802 is nice, but about $500 more than the Onkyo 898.

if you buy Onkyo, I suggest you contact Jason at onecall.com, via Hometheaterspot.com group buy program. He offers xlnt prices and service.

For what it's worth, my ears just bought an Integra 8.2 over the Denon 3802.

I just finished a similiar audition. I bought nothing, opting to stay with my Yamaha Rx-V1.

If I'd have bought it would have been the Integra 7.1 or 8.2.
