At around sterling 600 ($850 ish), the 2 that I have distilled out are the Denon 3802 and the Yamaha RXV1000 (now the 1200??). Any thoughts anyone? I can probably get the batter deal on the Denon, but would welcome objective comment or alternatives. They will be driving an existing JBL Control 1 5+1 rig (better centre speaker?), with the main L/R pair going via a JBL SB1 passive sub.
Thanks

Yup, the Denon would be my choice.

For that amount of money, you can get the Onkyo797, with THX, 6.1 setup,100+/channel; this is a great receiver and delivers much more than any other in its price class------several places online have it for $800 or so.

Hi Badger,
I no nothing about the Denon. However, I have found the 'center' channel equalizer on my Yam to be very useful. Therefore, I would suggest: Don't buy anything that does not have: 1) Center channel equalizer. 2) Separate 'low level' (RCA plugs) outputs for each, and every, channel. 3) Low level inputs for each channel.

Yamaha has many discrete IR codes for ON/OFF and all inputes. If you use a programmable remote like the Philips Pronto the Yamaha is the very best no matter how much money you have to spend. Onkyo has no discrete codes. I'm not sure about Denon. Maybe someone else could give some advice about the availability of discrete codes for Denon.

The Denon will sound better than the Onkyo, and alot better than the Yamaha if that matters. I think it has all the features of the others plus multiroom multisource.

You will get 10 different opinions from 10 different people on which brand sounds better then another especially when you are talking about the brands mentioned here. Go to a dealer and listen with your own ears before deciding which sounds best.
