Changed the batteries on my RM AV3000 and lost all my settings and programming!!!!

How do I prevent this from happening in the future?

I read a post earlier that said you should wait at least 10 seconds before putting in new batteries.

YES! Take them ALL out, throw them away then put in the new ones.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

What I did was to take them ALL OUT and then put in ALL new ones within about 10 seconds as that's what I read was the way to do it.

So what works? Can somone pls confirm?

1) We should take ALL the batteries out
2) We should replace all new batteries
3) We should wait 10 seconds? (is this right or wrong?)

I love multiple choice questions, especially when the answer is: D. All of the above.

Ron - so u can confirm we need to wait 10 seconds before adding the new batteries and this will solve the problem? how many times have you done this?

If I don't wait 10 seconds then I will lose everything ?

Am I understanding this properly?

Ron - thanks for info.

This is the part I don't get:

"I have found that when you change batteries take ALL of the batteries out, lay them on the couch or better yet throw them away, then put in the NEW ones"

What difference does it make if I put them on the couch, throw them away, on slow roast them on a grill? The point is how long do I need to wait before putting in the new ones. What I'm getting is that we should wait about 20 - 30 seconds.

Is that correct?

Yes wait 10-20 seconds. By taking the time to put them on the couch or throw them away, will take up 10- 20 seconds, sorry it wasnt more clear.

CB1 - thanks for the response.

Just want to ask you how many times have you successfully done this? (wait 10 - 20 seconds) and change the batteries to keep the programming)

I'm in the process of deciding if it's worth using the AV3000 again and going through the whole programming again. I need to be sure I won't lose the settings again so I want to make sure this will work.

Thanks again.

Being an Home Theater A/V installer, I have programed more than 50 of the 3000's, I have only lost memory on
5 or 6. And that was before I found out about the 20 second rule, since then I havent lost any programming
on any 3000 remotes, including my own. I made a back up to another 3000 and then took the batteries out several times, trying to make it lose its memory, if I didnt wait the 20 seconds, sometimes it would lose the memory, but if I waited 20 seconds, I never lost memory.
Since this test I no longer have the back up 3000. (it is programed for different stuff in the bedroom)

So I would say it is diffently worth reprogramming
your 3000!

Hi,

I have not lost my settings yet and I have tried with both normal batteries and Rayovac NIMH rechargeables (which work great). What I did when I first got mine was to pull the batteries for several hours and then put them back in. No problem. Next I have charged my NIMH several times so they are out of the unit for at least 30 minutes. Again no problem. Just my .02 cents. By the way, I ran the NIMH for one month and they were still going strong with average use so I recharged them. This time I am going to wait longer to see how long they will go.

I had mentioned earlier that the batteries were out of a 3000 for 5 days, new ones put in, all memory was still there, so in addition to what mjt said, iI guess
it is agreed that you dont need to be in a huge rush to install the new batteries if yours go dead.
I havent tried the rechargable route yet.

I have found that you have to make sure that the remote is turned off before you take the batteries out. Be careful not to hit any buttons or the screen before you take the batteries out.

And change the batteries at the first sign.

I exprienced this same problem, so I locked my settings so that they can not be changed. I'm also experiencing problems with the keys locking up so I've had to remove the batteries several times. I just press one of the batteries away from the contact for a split second. I've never lost my settings since doing this.
