My batteries recently died (lasted less than a month so I changed my settings to not run the backlight as much) and did not lose my settings. Again, I use the lock key in the settings to lock everything up.

Also, I haven't been experiencing any more problems with my keys locking up. But that's a different post...

I have found that you have to make sure that the
remote is turned off before you take the batteries
out. Be careful not to hit any buttons or the
screen before you take the batteries out.

And change the batteries at the first sign.

What if your remote is stuck in a loop where it keeps showing that it is broadcasting a signal and you have to pull the batteries to get it to stop? What should you do in that case???

Just follow the 20 second rule. Take out 1 battery, leave it out for 20 seconds, put it back in, reset clock, find which button is locking up, relearn that button, usually with a long furst from the original remote.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

...find which button is locking up, relearn
that button...

...Unfortunately that is a NOGO; the button will lockup again when you press it in the learn mode to get it to learn a new signal...Resetting the specific component does not help either, when it tries to clear the faulty button it....locksup again!!!

But the good news is that you can clear it by resetting the... WHOLE machine; and yes, your hours work of feverish programming and button mashing and renaming will have been a wasted effort, because now you can do it all over again...

Don't get me wrong: I find the AV3100 an excellent piece of machine, once you got it all set up, but I think Sony did a bad job of programming the machinecode here, and since there is no way of (user)upgrading the firmware, it is not very likely that they will admit so... (understatement).

There are only two things to avoid all this, one: be VERY careful when learning commands, that is keep the button of the original remote depressed until you hear the beep from the AV3100. (so if your finger slips off the original remote, do NOT quickly depress it AGAIN to learn it to the AV3100! (been there..))

my 2 eurocents...

...You wanted to know what the other thing is to avoid this problem? Well do not get an AV3100 (or 3000) in the first place...

Once you find the dirty code, delete it then relearn it. I have never had a problem doing that.

...but didn't the machine lockup again when you depressed the bad button together with the "del' marking? (I had that on 2 different occasions with 2 different buttons...)

Is what Lullo wrote correct? (See two posts above). I tried learning something and then tried to reset a component and it locked up. I tried to reset system, and it locked up.

Each time, I just got the --> -->, and it locked up until I remove the battery. I repeated and got the same results.

I deleted all, and reprogrammed everything, and tried reprogramming and resetting the component (lighting), and it locked up again.

Help!
