Hello all.

I must say this is one of the most informative message boards I've seen. Due to the great information provided by the people on this thread, I purchased a RS 15-1994 this week. I just bought a new Sony 43 projection television and a new Sony DVD/AV receiver combo unit. The remotes were giving me and my wife headaches trying to figure out what needed to be set to watch TV, DVD, VCR, and listen to the tuner.

The programming of the RS-1994 isn't too difficult for an old man like me. But I have run into a snag. The Sony DAV-S300 unit (DVD and AV Receiver) doesn't respond to the standard Sony receiver device code 0158. The DVD functions do respond to the Sony Laser Disk Device code of 0533. I have programmed Aux1 to the Sony 0158 device code and Aux2 to the Sony 0533 device code. I can control the DVD play through Aux2 but I can't control the receiver, thus the sound fields, video sources, fm/am tuner, etc.. through Aux1.

Is my problem the fact that the DAV-S300 is a duel function unit (DVD and Receiver)?? Or is there a newer device code of the DAV-S300 (receiver side)?

The fact that the DVD can be controlled by Device code 0533 leads me to beleive I could control the receiver functions if I had the right code and advance codes..

Your help, thoughts and comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

Respectfully,

Gramps

Hi Gramps.

Let me try to help. Since your component is a combo DVD and AV and it sounds like 0533 is the right device code for the DVD portion, Aux2 should take care of the DVD player. If I were you I will try to find the right device code for the AV part and assign it to Aux1. Learn more about your AV's adv code from Rob's website. Since volume punch thru does not work for 15-1994, I will assign the TV's volume+/- and reassign them on your AV's volume+/-. If it still does not solve all your problem I will use the learning capabilities of the 15-1994 to learn all or most the important and frequently used functions on the AV's device(Aux1).

Have you tried learning (teaching) your 15-1994 with your original remote? Once you try and master it, you will love it. I love the learning feature of the 15-1994. Wander how people use to live without p** 975 [IR zap from your original remote] p**.

Hope it helps.

OK now I really need help.

I'm looking to find the descrete/advanced codes for the Sigma Designs Real Magic Hollywood Plus DVD Decoder. It's a PC card hardware decoder. It has an add on remote with a IR reciever that plugs into the serial port.

I'm running out of memory. So learning is now not an option.

Any suggestions???

I finally got the Panasonic DVD working (somewhat - still looking at the advanced codes). Does anyone have the advanced codes for a Samsung TV using 0060? I can't find it on any of the web sites mentioned.

Thanks!!

The dishplayer uses code 1005, but it's NOT on the 15-1994.

I have been looking at this forum and I am still slightly confused about the 15-1994 vs 15-1995.

What I think I really want in a remote is:
1. Indicator of what mode I am in. I know the 15-1995 has this via the LCD (way cool). Does/can the 15-1994 do this, by lighting up the device light and keeping it lit?
2. Keys with the labels GUIDE and MENU, for my Sony DSS. I know the 15-1994 has this. Does the 15-1995?
3. RF/IR. I know the 15-1995 has this, and that I could make the 15-1994 do this with some additional equipment.
4. I want to be able to press one button that will turn on my amp, switch the amp to VCR input, switch the TV to VCR input, turn the volume all the way down on my TV, and adjust the volume on my amp. I sure the 15-1994 does this. Can the Home Theater button on the 15-1995 do this?
5. I see mention of advanced codes for the 15-1994. Can the 15-1995 use these? Do I really need a learning remote (15-1994) to run my equipment?

Is there any other remote out there that meets my wants (musts) above that I should be looking at?

My equipment:
- Sony KV-32V25 TV
- Sony B1 DSS
- Panasonic PV-7451 VCR
- Yamaha RX-V795 amp

Thanks

Rob, none of those codes for the Sherwood took for me trying to map AUX1. Did you get any of them to take and/or work?

Dutt:
I didn't try the codes that the other Rob listed here. What I did do was download a Sherwood file from the Pronto forum and look at the IR signal, unfortunately I didn't recognize it as matching any of the existing OFA codes. That being said, the file that I have of OFA codes is incomplete, I have a larger file here that I have sent to my home address, so hopefully I can do some further checking later. (Note: it's always worth trying CD codes also when trying to get a reciver to work, I use a CD code to control my Kenwood receiver. Plus, if the codes listed don't work in AUX mode, try them in CD mode).

Alan:
<<1. Indicator of what mode I am in. can the 15-1994 do this?>>

No.

<<2. Keys with the labels GUIDE and MENU, for my Sony DSS. I know the 15-1994 has this. Does the 15-1995?>>

On the 15-1994, the GUIDE key is "under" the MENU key, so you need to use the SHIFT key to get at it. You can always program it onto another button using advanced codes.

<<3. RF/IR. I know the 15-1995 has this, and that I could make the 15-1994 do this with some additional equipment.>>

The 15-1994 does not handle RF. You would need to buy a totally seperate IR extender, the kind which would work with any IR remote.

<<4. I want to be able to press one button that will turn on my amp, switch the amp to VCR input, switch the TV to VCR input, turn the volume all the way down on my TV, and adjust the volume on my amp. I sure the 15-1994 does this. Can the Home Theater button on the 15-1995 do this?>>

You can program macro's on both remotes. The 15-1994 has four spare buttons that are useful for placing macro's on them, the 15-1995 doesn't have any spare buttons. You cannot place macro's on device keys, so the Home Theater button cannot be used as a macro button. I'm not sure how you would get a macro to adjust the volume to your liking, that might take some experimentation!

<<5. I see mention of advanced codes for the 15-1994. Can the 15-1995 use these? Do I really need a learning remote (15-1994) to run my equipment?>>

Both remotes can use advanced codes. Only you can answer the learning question. If you are able to find device codes for every piece of your equipment, and every button works properly, then you don't need learning. But on the other hand, if you have a VCR (like the Samsung SV5000) that has the RECORD button programmed differently to the rest of the buttons - so the pre-programmed record button on the 15-1994/5 won't work, you will need to learn the original button. If you have a device that doesn't have a code in the 15-1994 (like ReplayTV), then you'll need to learn those buttons. If you have a device that does have a code, but some of the buttons come from another device code (as is the case with my Kenwood receiver) you will nee to learn those buttons.

Rob.
