As far as I know they're nearly identical. The 6 is about a month older than the 7. The 7 just controls one more device; memory is about the same (up to 24 learned signals).

I bought the Cinema 6, hoping to simplify life for my wife. We were using the A/V Producer 8, which did not have all the properly labelled buttons for DSS.

Lessons learned:

1. Buttons are too danged small and close together for easy, error-free pressing.

2. Doesn't have the pass-through feature, whereby you can directly assign a DSS-mode button to TV-mode, for example. You have to make it "learn" the DSS button from the DSS remote. I haven't done that yet, hopefully it will work out OK.

3. Dual IRs do make it quite powerful.

Steve,

Re your point (2) above: The Cinema 6/7 actually does support assigning buttons from one mode to another. It's just not documented in the manual. Visit their Web site http://www.oneforall.com, go to "One for All USA" and follow the programming instructions given for the 5060/61/62/63 series remotes under "key mover". The Cinema 6/7 programming sequences are the same.

Just bought the Cinema 7 learning remote. $24.95 at Sears. What a steal!! Worked 80% of the functions on first code tried! I am having some difficulty with my Sony STR-DA50ES receiver however. Doesn't seem to want to control all functions. Surround not working, even after fix in manual. Anyone using this for this receiver? Sent for advanced codes, but nothing yet. Any help greatly appreciated! Please e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanx!

Griff

Griff,

I use to have the 50ES and found to get all the funtions working, I had to assign two devices for it- one to run vol..., one for surround... Just try the other codes listed for Sony Rcvrs.

Thanks Dave,

I'll give that a try. I got the advanced codes, but am having no luck getting them to work. Can I program the aux button to control options on my receiver also? I hope this baby works, I sure like it better than the remote that came with mt receiver!

FYI,

I bought Cinema 7 at Sears for $19.99 after mentioning that I had seen it for that price at Wal Mart on this site. It pays to ask.

Ok, so which should I get? The Cinema 6 or 7? If they are the same price?

Earlier on this site it was said that the 6 was the same as the 7 but is was a "learner" - - - Later on this site people are saying that they are the same except that the 7 is a little newer.

What is the truth???

There are two versions of the C7, one with learning and one (older model) without. The learning C7 seems to be identical to the C6, except that the C7 can control one more device.

Ok,

I found the Cinema 7 on One For All's website listed as the 7800. There is also an 8800 (which I believe is the A/V Producer 8) and has all the same functions and can also be backlit. Does anyone know anything about this model (more differences between it and the 7800 and where you can find them and how much they are, etc.) ???

Just picked up the 8800 at CC today for $39.

I may have to take it back because I cannot get it to "learn" on any other keys besides 1L-6L. Strange since the new Cinema 7 can learn on any key.

Anyone know how to learn on the 8800 (any key)?
