I have been watching this site for many years and knew enough that I would eventually get a Pronto. As a total newbie and with the 7500 sitting here plugged into my PC, can anyone point me to newbie threads and where I might want to get started? Is there a thread with basic overview of ccf files and te such that would apply to my 7500? Not sure where to start. Just picked up a 1080p mits and took mitsubishi's free money for the pronto. Where can I get started with basic Denon, Dig cable, and have the learning curve be just a few hours. Just installed the software and I know some of you guys have been doing this for years, but imagine looking at it and just doo! Forgive me and no flames please but could I paypay anyone and give them a list of my components?? Simple newbie help is very appieciated, remember you where once retarded like me. I have no idea where to start.

Edit: I promise to help other newbies in the future!

If you've been watching for years, you probably already know to read the FAQ, the Reviews, and if still wanting more, buy the Utimate Pronto Guide.

And, by the way, your 7500 uses PCFs (not CCFs).

Search for Ultimate Pronto Guide and purchase it. That will be the FASTEST way to get started and get a basic understanding of ProntoEditPRONG software and get started programming the Pronto.

Peter you comment sort of pisses me off, considering I'm not a newbiw on many boards but of course made my buying decision based upon this one. But as many will attest I do not really want to spend my life customizing me remote however after the first three hours I can tell you a pronto is simply not that easy to make work. That is why the logitech's get so much money. It would be impossible if it were not for simple respectful people like mrailing who simple stated to buy the Ultimate Guide. I searched and did not find a simple "how to" and now that I know I can see the banner ads and the like.

All I can say is I have had the Kameleon, the Logitech 880 and my system deserves a beter remote and after reading these boards for a few years for maybe 5 minutes at a time. I can see after my first night I "can" make it do exactly what I want but at $850 for a remote and at least 20 hours of a learning curve, I would hope that afficondos would want to help and not treat sonmeone who can afford this remote with dignity and respect. What I am trying to say is never flame a newbie, who knows you may buy a new 5 series, start and Internet business, or maybe even a 5000sqft custom home and trust me there are boards for all of these.

I am no video/audiophile but with a 1080p 73" Mits being delivered tommorrow, I was hoping to at least get he remote tot the point where "I" could work it. And yes I read the FAQ's and reviews before buying. But programming a Pronto to work perfectly can seem a little daunting when your wife is bitching about why you would buy it in the first place. Thanks mrailing for the simple reply I will get started there tonight.

I suspect we've all been in your shoes at one time, but it seems to me you may have over-reacted. I doubt Peter meant to be disrespectful. After all, he did point you in the right direction with the UPG, which is a great resource for those just starting out. The other thing you could do is browse through the Files section, pluck out some pcfs for Mitsubishi TVs (chances are the codes aren't all that different for yours), as well as for your other components, and piece together a pcf for your own system that combines devices from those other pcfs. In short order you should be able to build an ugly, but functional, pcf, and then you can spend hours on end refining it (as the rest of us do). If you get really desperate, post the exact equipment configuration you have and someone might be willing to toss something together for you. I'd do it myself, but I'm going away for a couple of weeks -- I'll look in on you when I get back.

FYI... 411Avatar was mucho nicer in his response and yes, Peter did provide guidance to your questions. 411 also told you how to assemble a config file. Pressing F1 from the software will give you help on "merging" configurations.

I, especially want to ask that you read the remainder of my response in an unemotional way as I really want to provide guidance for future interactions with the community.

Well, Mike, this appears that you may be somewhat arrogant and if you have been watching this site, you've been doing homework... Reading reviews, FAQs, etc..

Well, if you've been reading and monitoring, you should have known about the FAQ, the Ultimate Pronto Guide, etc... I also have to ask... Have you even read the Pronto or Pronto NG FAQs?

Just installed the software and I know some of
you guys have been doing this for years, but imagine
looking at it and just doo! Forgive me and no
flames please but could I paypay anyone and give
them a list of my components??

And now, you are soliciting help off-off-offering to paypay someone to throw something together to avoid the learning curve, which, btw, makes me ask??

Edit: I promise to help other newbies in the future!

How are you going to "help other newbies in the future" if all you have invested is money?

Peter and I both Beta-Tested the 7000 remotes and have countless hours invested ensuring that the software you use is stable and works well. In fact, I'm troubleshooting a minute issue tonight that others most likely don't experience.

Maybe this response is indeed unwarranted and very coarse. However, as I stated... If you'd been reading the forum and doing your homework you'd have had alot of the answers you seek already. Yes, maybe both Peter and I took your initial message as being sort of "cocky".

In fact here's how I took it.

"Hey. I've been following this site for many years and I "know" about the Pronto Remotes. Now, help me get mine going. I've not read the FAQ. Learning curve is too steep. Want someone to program mine for me for $$$. And I promise to help out other newbies."

How can you help "newbies" if you only want to pay?

I understand your enthusiasm and interest in getting quickest returns on you investment. However, without an initial investment in education, you will never be able to reap the benefits of this wonderful remote.

We're a community here that lives pretty much to help others and will bend over backwards to help those who want to help themselves.

The fact that you indicated you are "in the know" about Pronto Remotes but don't know the first thing about getting started, to me, is like buying a new car and asking "Hey, where's the ignition switch?"

What you will soon learn is that even if you do pay for a setup, you will never be happy with it and will always be tinkering and changing things. As a result, you will need to know the software, understand the workings of the remote such that you don't have to shell out $$$ for little tweaks here and there.

I hope to see you around and helping other people once you come up to speed and get on board. However, I'm not going to hold my breath. I do hope that you get your config up and running the way you like and that you grow to appreciate the remote as much as others here as it truly is a life-saver.

Welcome on board. Enjoy the addiction.

I think you guys are being a bit hard on the Noobie. I read his initial post and took it for what it was. He didn't say he spent his life reading this thread, he probably just reviewed some posts now and again. I also think that Peter's response was a bit harsh, although I don't think it warranted you (Mike) being "pissed off." As for how to program the remote, what I did was found a good file to start and then just merged it into my Pronto (7000). I then browsed through a number of files and merged components. I've spent a lot of time designing my remote and have to say it has become a bit of a hobby that I truly enjoy. I now use my remote to watch TV via an HD TiVo, watch DVDs, play Xbox 360, adjust the lights and even control a portable heater. Just spend some time with it and in no time you'll have it going. BTW - it really only takes minutes to be able to program the remote for use with your Mits TV - just download the file file that Lyndel posted. You can then work on tweaking it later.
