Both remotes use the same engine and functionally are the same.

I suggest that you read this thread from start to finish and decide for yourself.

Personally, I like the 4 buttons beneath the screen on the Pronto Remote vs the Marantz remote.

Personally I would opt for teh Maramtx RC9500.

I have the RC5400 and I am more than happy with the unit, the only thing stopping me from geting the RC9500 (apart from the wife!!!) is the fact that i have only had the RC5400 for just over a year!!

. . . though I do concede that this may be due to their being more 7000/980 owners than 9500 owners.

I think I'd rather have the 7000 over the 9500.
I couldn't imagine losing 2 of my "below the
screen" hard buttons. I love having the 4 on
the 7000. The only thing I wish the 7000 had
would be a "select" button in the center of the
directional hard buttons. So many OEM remotes
have an "enter" or "select" button in the center
of their navigation buttons. I had to use the
lower left button surrounding my nav buttons for
the "select". Oh well. Nothing's perfect.

Mark

I don't suppose the Marantz 9500 has a "select" button either?

Select Button? What do you mean by that? The Page Up/Down buttons on the side?

"Select" as in like an "Enter", or an "OK" button.
Like Marky_Mark896 points out, most OEM remotes have this function...

An example of how this button works:
you can surf the channels by up & down buttons and see whats on tv WITHOUT actually changing to those channels (via satellite TV), and then press the "Select / Enter / OK" button to finally choose the channel you want.

I am compiling a table comparing Navitus features
to the Pronto TSU7000 for the shop that loaned
me the Navitus. If someone will tell me where
to put it, I'll post it in the files section of
Remote Central when I'm done with it. Email me
instructions at [email protected].

The one thing the Navitus has all over the Prontos
is the hard button design. It is fabulous.

What are the comparison results of the Marantz RC9500 vs Pronto TSU7000 vs Sony Navitus RM-NX7000?

Select is the 'Enter' button that on the 7000 is a Check Mark and on the 9500 looks like the symbol on the Enter key on a PC keyboard.

It would have been very nice to have a 5 way keypad with an enter button in the center but neither the 7000 nor the 9500 were designed in this way. The HTM MX-3000 does have this button in the center of the 4-way pad.

I'm still in 2 minds about which remote to get...
I only have all the various OEM remotes, no "programmable" one.

having only set-up RC9500 & RC5400, whats the problem?. I reckon they are simple to programme and arrange. And the support from Marantz NZ is ten times better than Philips NZ. Thats my .04centsNZ worth (.03centsUS)
