"Select" as in like an "Enter", or an "OK" button.

An example of how this button works:
you can surf the channels by up & down buttons and see whats on tv WITHOUT actually changing to those channels (via satellite TV), and then press the "Select / Enter / OK" button to finally choose the channel you want.
