I really like the look and feel or Archer's and Jon Linville's Device Icons. What is the easiest way to modify those images or how to export them from the pcf? I basically want to edit the naming of the devices (i.e. RCA VCR to Sony VCR) or perhaps make them generic since I need a new VCR anyway!!!

All of my device icons are generic (with the exception of some of the Panamax surge protector pictures). To export bmps, save a copy of the .pcf, then rename it as a .zip file. Once you unzip this file you will have a folder named bitmaps which contains all of the images. You can modify the names with most any paint program. The font I used was from Adobe Illustrator 9.

I used Corel Draw 8 & 10 for all my lettering on the Bitmaps. The font I used on most was ARIAL ROUNDED MT BOLD.

jcl, I was trying what you said and I am having no luck. when I try to rename the .pcf file to a .zip the properties aren't changing. Can you give me a few more details on how you do it so I can figure out what I am doing wrong. Thanks,
Peter

You have to change the properties of the file not just the name. Worked for me. Thanks.

wbern, do you have windows showing the full name of the file myconfig.pcf? if you have that rename it to myconfig.zip, if not then you need to change it in windows to see known file extensions

I should have been more descriptive. Anthony is correct the extensions must be visible or you are just changing the name. To make the extensions visible I usually open Windows Explorer, click on Tools, then Folder Options. Then click on the View tab and make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is NOT checked. This is for Windows XP but the other versions should have similar steps. Also there are several other posts on this forum that discuss changing the file to a zip file.
