The HD/SD workaround is back working again. The new software (7.80) is currently in limited release, and as soon as the last round of testing is done, it will be released to everyone. I wasn't able to convince Dish to put true discrete HD and SD commands into the software, but at least the workaround is back.

Should be pretty soon now - certainly not more than a week or two unless something serious turns up.

Thanks for the update, Mark.

Your comment that the new software level (7.80) is in limited release, is intriguing. I have noted that some forum members appear to have received it already. Do you know if they control the distribution by individual account numbers, or by zip code, or area code, or some other geographic breakdown?

Finally got updated from 7.78 to 7.81 tonight, and the SD/HD workaround coding is working properly again for me. No other problems so far, using either the Dish remote, or my Pronto.

There have been several descriptions of the workaround, but the one in this thread is pretty detailed.

Glad it worked for you, TJ55. Isn't it great, how we can resolve arcane and obscure technical issues with these forums?

We are both benefitting from the knowledge and exptertise of others here, especially Mark, who has tracked and reported on this problem through to resolution by Dish.

I'm curious, what exactly is their problem with adding discretes? I saw the bit about the original remote not having buttons for these codes, but so what? People who just have the original remote (and no Pronto, etc) will be blissfully ignorant that they even exist, they'll certainly be no worse off. People who need discretes need to have programmable remotes as most devices lack real buttons for them.

Are they aware that brands that tend to not include discretes get called nasty names (ie, TOAD).

I just see what they think they have to lose.
