OK, built my own JP1 cable (impossible to find a 6 hole IDC connector - made one up from a IDE computer cable). All checked out with IR. Loaded up RM and downloaded the KM device file associated with my Panasonic HT900 HTIB. Made one change to the button allocation in RM and tranferred the data to IR and uploaded it to the 8811. Only problem I had was in RM trying to select what the remote was. Although I have an OFA 8811, there are about 5 different listings for the 881x. Picked the basic one, but is there a more applicable one for the 8811? Now have to go and try the remote out to see if it really did download! I'll tackle the TV next.
Thanks again for all of the advice and guidance.

Just one more question. In IR I modified the parrallel port to 1600. Will this setting only affect IR, or will it affect the parrallel port itself? Do I have to continually change it from 0 to 1600 and back to 0 every time I connect and disconnect the JP1 cable? Thanks again.

Only the basic one is correct for your 8811. 881x rdf files vary by the size of the eeprom and by whether/which extender you have installed. The basic one is for a 2K eeprom with no extender, which is what you have. The extenders are extra software that make a bunch of enhancements such as macros run faster and remove restrictions on which keys can be keymoves. You can install an extender via jp1 software if you like (see more info in JP1 forum). But simply selecting the extender version of the rdf in RM and IR won't install the extender. It would just build an eeprom image that will malfunction due to lack of the extender.

I can't see anything else you might change to 1600. I think IR.exe saves its settings somewhere, so you don't need to redo that every time you run IR. But it doesn't affect other programs that use the parrallel port.

Yes, I was refering to the transmission delay in IR.exe. Thanks for the feedback on the correct file to use with the 8811.

OK, have come up against a brickwall with Remote Master. I have learned all of the codes for the supplied AKAI PDP4273M remote and I am trying to create my own device upgrade set for the remote in Remote Master 1.62. Everytime I open Remote Master it defaults to 2 Slingshot remotes. I have tried to download an upgrade file associated with AKAI tvs from the files section in the hi-fi remotes web site. I have selected one of the upgrade documents but I get a message in Remote Master indicating the associated remote can't be found and then defaults to the 2 Slingshot remotes. I have followed the JP1 - just how easy is it - tutorial with no success. If I have no definition for the remote I want to replicate in the 8811, what goes into the "remote" box on the opening screen in RM and how do I get rid of the default listing for the Slingshot remotes? Thanks for your help.

If you have learned any buttons from your Akai remote, could you download the URC-8811's memory and let us look at it, so we can confirm which codeset is the correct one for you.
There is an area of the File Section, in the JP1 forums, called "Diagnosis Area", where you can load the file.
Or, if you like, you could just post the summary info. To do that, in IR.exe go to File > Summary, then cut & paste the learned signal info. It will look something like this...
LEARNED SIGNALS: #Device ButtonKeyProtocolDeviceSubDeviceOBCHex CmdEFCMiscNote 1AUX2Old Panasonic3163FF or FD or FE181 or 165 or 189OFF 2AUX3Old Panasonic25480F or 0D or 0E058 or 042 or 066OSc 3AUX4Old Panasonic25202B or 29 or 2A091 or 075 or 099Mode 4AUX5Old Panasonic253627 or 25 or 26251 or 235 or 003Timer 5AUX1Old Panasonic3163FF or FD or FE181 or 165 or 189ON/Speed

Most of the learned signals pertain to the TV. There doesn't appear to be much memory left for learning (22 free). When looking at this, it appears the 8811 didn't learn the Vol - code from the AKAI remote. Is this a correct interpretation of the information?
Thanks.

I have also downloaded the 8811 file to the diagnostics area of hi-fi remote under AKAI PDP4273M.

I think that means it doesn't have the path to the rdf directory. I just went through its GUI looking for the spot where you reset the RDF path and couldn't find it. I did try EditPreferred from the Remotes menu. That (rather than the rdf path) might be what is messed up and/or looking there might confirm that its rdf path is wrong.

I deleted the installation of Remote Master and re-installed it. That cured the problem of the restricted remote availability. Have learned the codes for the AKAI TV in two sessions and have re-programmed the 8811. Will see how it all works.
