So here I sit, feeling much like a moron. In front of me are two remotes, the 15-1994 and the 15-1995. I can't decide which one to keep and which one to return, because I can't get EITHER of them to work completely with any of my equipment. I have found function codes that control SOME of the functions on each piece of my system, so I know I must be in the right ballpark. But since some buttons work and some buttons don't, I can only assume that I need the "advanced functions" codes that I have been reading about, but have no idea how to get them or program them. So maybe one of you out there can help me.

Here is my list of equipment:

TV: Sony KP-53V75
VCR: RCA VR683HF (yes it's old...but guess what? It can copy DVD's...go figure)
Tuner: Kenwood VR-209
DVD: Sony DVP-S330

So first question: What are the correct codes for these pieces of equipment?

Second question: What are or where can I find the "advanced codes" for these?

Third Question: How do I program these advanced codes into the 15-1994?

Fourth Question: How do I program these advanced codes into the 15-1995?

HELP! One of these remotes will go back, or maybe both of them will, but I'd like to try them out.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Bill

I can't comment much on the 15-1995. It's not a learning remote, so I've never looked at it much.

The 15-1994, on the other hand, is operationally similar to the Cinema 6, as you've probably heard. This means that you can use an existing remote to teach the 15-1994 what code to use on just about any button (the instructions only say that you can use the four special buttons, but that isn't the case).

Here's the address for the Cinema 7 FAQ. Just about everything there applies to the 15-1994 as well. This will explain how to set up the advanced codes, and shows you a way to guess at the advanced codes as well.

Once you've figured out what basic codes you're using, you can go to http://www.oneforall.com and nose around. You'll find a form where if you tell them the basic codes and the brand of the equipment, they'll email you (in about a week, don't be too impatient) a list of the advanced codes that matches your system.

Thanks for the response. Ok, then one more stupid question. If I choose not to program the advanced codes into the 15-1994, and rather use the "learning" aspect of the remote, how do I "learn" on the other buttons than the four that are dedicated to learning?

Ok, ok, so I'm a beginner.

Thanks again.

No problem. The four buttons mentioned are not dedicated to learning. In fact, I use them for macros.

Just apply the learning sequence to any button you want to.

Also note that you can only learn ~24-28 codes. If that isn't enough, you'll have to try the advanced codes.

Hmmm... do you mean that you can only learn 24-28 codes in total or 24-28 codes per device?

I believe that would be total. However, that number is VERY subjective. Learning memory limits is one of the reasons why advanced codes are so important.
