Hey guys, I have just bought myself the RadioShack 15-2116 and can get everything to work great except for my JVC audio receiver (#RX-888V)..!!?!?! I have looked everywhere for the code and cannot find it. Even the manual search is not working... Please help...

Did you change RCVR to AMP and try code 0331?

Do you still have the JVC remote? If so, you can use the 15-2116's learning feature to control this device.

If you go the JP1 route, you can see what those learned functions look like and create a new code for this device yourself.

Hi Rob, yes I still have the JVC remote and as I am new to this, I will 1st try the 15-2116's learning feature then if that fails, I will try to go the JP1 route.

The code you really need is RCVR/0074, but it doesn't appear to be in the 15-2116. However, AMP/0331 uses the same signal, so you might be able to program the buttons using the advanced codes listed here:

Thanks again Rob, I will give it a try and let you know how it works... By the way, if I program the advanced codes for the volume up and down, will I still be able to lock the volume keys ?? I have been told that it is possible to lock the volume keys to the receiver so that you are always using the receiver's volume instead of the TV whenever you hit volume up or down. If the volume buttons are programed with the advanced codes do you think that they can still be locked?

Ed, not on the RS models, but there is on the higher end OFA models.

GS, no, if you have to program the volume buttons using advanced codes, you won't be able to lock to them. (May I recommend a JP1 cable)

Hello everyone again...

Here is where I am at with my JVC and RS 15-2116 saga:

I called RS this morning to find out why there was no JVC receiver code in the manual. They don't know why and gave me the RCVR-0074 and the AMP-0331 codes and I told them that I had already tried those and they did not work. The RS rep then suggested I try this thing called JP-1, she said that a customer had phoned last week and had told her that it worked, go figure. So as per Rob's advice last night, I will begin JP-1.

Before I do I have 2 more questions (I am new at this so please bear with me):

1) I have both the RS 15-2116 and the RCU810 remotes, can I go the JP-1 route with both of these remotes??

2) If I go the JP-1 route, is there a way to program my PS2 dvd/cd controls into my remotes without having the original PS2 remote?

The RCU 810 is JP-1 able IF you are willing to take the remote apart and solder in the 6 pin header similar to the one you can see in your 2116. There's documentation at JP-1 yahoo group about how to do it.
Doesn't the PS2 require a receiver to use a remote with it? seems I remember one of the game controllers required a receiver/remote package for it. If this is the PS2, and you do have just the receiver, Likely there is a file somewhere where someone has programmed a remote code to work ueic remotes with the receiver.

1) The same JP1 cable and the same learning to use JP1 can then be used on both the 15-2116 and RCU810, so the second one is "free" in both those measures, BUT the RCU810 does not come with JP1 pins soldered in.

An RCU810 is harder to reassemble (after you take it apart to solder in the JP1 pins) than a typical JP1 capable remote, and you need to do a cleaner job of soldering or trimming flush to the opposite side of the PCB than, for example, a URC7800. If you are good at soldering and you disassemble carefully (to see how to reassemble) it won't be too hard.

2) I'm pretty sure a base PS2 does not receive IR. When you buy the remote as an add on, you get the remote and the IR receiver. If you somehow have the IR receiver without having the remote (or if I'm wrong about the base PS2 not receiving IR) then you can take advantage of the fact that others have already posted the IR code details and you can use that to program your JP1 remote without learning from the orriginal.

IIRC, people have posted details of two totally different IR protocols for PS2. I believe this indicates that one of the brands of the IR receiver plus remote sold as a PS2 add on uses a different signalling system than that used by some or all of the other brands. Unless there's a third one out there that no one has posted about yet, the worst that means is that you need to try a second upgrade if the more common one doesn't work.

Would you happen to know if there is a connector for the RCU810 that I could put on instead of having to solder??? I don't wanna take the chance and screw up my dad's remote... I will look into the PS2 at a later date... for now I want to concentrate on the remotes! Thanks for the info!

GS, if you're thinking of buying a JP1 cable, ask the seller if he includes the pins needed for the RCU810 (most of them do). Then, rather than soldering them into place, just put them in the female end of the JP1 cable and hold it in place by hand. It's not perfect but it does work.

So, did I hear that right, the RS customer support is now recommending JP1???
