Sigh...I wish Nevo would come up with variables/flag status.

It would be an incredible addition if there were events that could be determined based on flag/variable statuses. Not talking about power status - obviously the sensors work great in that regard... Would be nice to do page flips and delays based on variables being set to on & off. Also, it would make these remotes more fun to program - right now the application is just not powerful enough to compete with RTI, URC and Pronto, which all have this type of feature.

Anyone know if UEI is considering this and what the position is?

You should request that as a feature via Nevo's website. There is a link on their site called Submit Feature Request.

Most of the features of the Q50 and S70 and NevoConnect were derived from input received from Dealers and Installers.

Thanks Drew, to be honest many of my colleagues have requested this person to person with some of the Nevo people.

I have as well but with product development - there are always priorities. And Nevo's priority in the last 8-12 months has been the two Z-Wave integration and the 2 way pre-config'd serial devices.

Hopefully now we'll see some of these other features we've all asked about start to be implemented in future releases of NSP. (I'm hoping for Time Based Macros personally)

I too would love to see Time Based macros. I think it's a must to take the Z-wave home automation to the next level.

Sometimes you have to take a step back so you can go forward. There is an element of control missing that can be accomplished with variable flag settings. What good is a two way system if you can't call an event based on a variable?

I wonder if Nevo has avoided variables since they could be a free alternative to their video and voltage sensors. If you think about it, you could always set a status variable for tv or receiver power and it should work almost flawlessly. I would imagine that's how Harmony handles it internally...
Just a thought....

i think the reason these requests take so long to be implemented by nevo, is that they want to make sure their software updates actually work.  if you have ever used URC's CCP software, you would notice that it gets updated rather frequently, and not everything in the software works after an update.

i have never had an issue with nevo studio or studiopro not working after an update.

The update to studio pro due out Q1 or Q2 will have both time based macros and variables. I know I have no cred here but you'll have to trust me.

Um, why is that? (Just curious.)

I disagree that implementing variable checks would create firmware upgrade problems. URC has a LOTof remotes and a LOT of different software to mantain. All that product and software can be a nightmare to juggle a firmware release. Nevo's line is lean and focused using only one software.

Also, variable checks are essential to any real control system. Power sensors are NOT the same things. Power sensors serve as a bulletproof way to perform an action based on a power on/off. That is it. Variables can perform actions based on conditions (what page your on, what you have pressed/set, or anything you can make up). NEVER use variables to track power and expect the remote to work well. However, basing page flips, transitions, screen text, etc on variables can go a long way.

Time based macros need to be on a processor, not a remote. Nevo needs to come out with a brain / processor where macros are stored and triggered by the remote. They are more reliable, quicker, and can run based on time regardless of te remote's battery level, function, or location.

Since other systems use this approach, I have wondered why Nevo doesn't, as at least as an option. I like to imagine a rack-mounted receiver/processor that can replace the NC-50(s) in a system and add the functions you describe.

Is this something that the existing Nevo system could accommodate? And does anyone know if adding such a component has ever seriously made it onto Nevo's radar?
