Hi All,

I'm new to this and a amateur DIY'er, so any insight you can provide on my problem would be GREATLY appreciated. So here's what's going on...

I've got a Nevo Q50 with a Nevo Connect that sits in a closed ventilated stereo cabinet in my living room. I also have a Harmony 890 that I use RF in my bedroom. I also have a Belkin N1 wireless router located at least 3 rooms away from each of these. Approximately 3 weeks after firing up my new Nevo Q50 and Connect (which is EXTREMELY COOL by the way), I lost connection to the Connect. Oddly enough at the SAME TIME, I lost all functioning of my harmony 890's RF capability unless the remote is 12 inches from the receiver or less. With regard to the Q50 and connect, I went through the "find node" routine, did a firmware updrade, and even did a factory reset trying to get them to communicate again. After reading about the problems with the antennas that others have left on this forum, I contacted my authorized retailer and he sent me a replacement connect. It again worked for 3 weeks and then did the exact same thing. I'm now contemplating switching to IR leapfrogs and avoiding RF alltogether. I'd rather not, but I'm really not sure what's going on.

I guess my main question is, could there be something either via voltage or Wifi that is spiking and scrambling the configurations of both of these completely different units? Has anyone heard of Wifi (wireless N band in particular) causing interference spikes with Zwave or harmony 890 rf? It just seems reall odd that the same problem has happened to both setups at the same time twice.

Again, thanks for any insight you can provide.

JT

Wow, that's weird. So after three weeks, you lost the connection for good? Or it just became unreliable and started dropping out repeatedly?

The fact that the Harmony is having trouble too would suggest it's not a Nevo hardware problem, but a more general z-wave interference issue. (The 890 is a z-wave device also.) What's the current status of the Harmony?

My understanding, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, is that Nevo devices can't directly communicate with other z-wave devices, but do act as nodes within other z-wave networks. Unfortunately, I don't understand the technical details of how z-wave devices interact, but I can't help but suspect it's a matter of the Nevo not playing nice with the Harmony's network. As an experiment, maybe you could try disabling the Harmony set-up (remove the batteries, I guess) and see if the Nevo set-up behaves better.

Another question: Did you ever add the Harmony equipment to your Nevo ecosystem?

My recommendation as a Nevo and Pronto dealer. Sell the Q50, buy a TSU9400, and use WiFi. In this realm, you'll only be limited by the range of your WLAN. I just replaced three Q50s with 9400s because of the communication problems. I really like the Nevo gear, but think that they have some work to do on the wireless portion of the Q50.

Hi,

Evo, The Q50 and S70 using Z-wave is the most stable and reliable RF network I have ever used.
It sounds like you may need more training on the product!
What country are you in?

bigdeal00,

Have you performed a network optimize?
This is a critical part of the z-wave setup, particularly if there are other z-wave devices around.

Did you try turning of the other devices when the network went down?

If you can supply a little more info regarding your setups then maybe we could help a little more.

Optimize, optimize, optimize.

The harmony only worked again AFTER I called logitech tech support and went thru a firmware reset/update. After It initially stopped worlking, it would only communicate with the rf receiver if it was within a foot or so of it. i have never had the logitech equipment integrated with the Nevo. I don't think i've ever done an "optimize". I have not tried to turn off the 890, but i will try that. The weird thing is that as soon as i got the replacement Nevo Connect, it worked great. Again, for only about 2 weeks before the exact same thing happened (at the same time with both systems). The Harmony is currently not working properly via RF (again, only when its within a foot of the receiver) and I have not gone through the step of contacting Logitech support again. sydney, I'm in the US (North Carolina). I think I'll try eliminating the Harmony RF system (still use the IR function) and see what happens.

As for the optimize, is there anything additional that I would need to do besides a full firmware upgrade on the Q50 and Connect? Also, hit the reset button on the bottom of the connect......

Thanks for all of your support -- any other ideas are of course much appreciated!!

Funny... I'm in the US. You let me know when you get that combo to work in a 10k square foot home, and I'll buy them again. For now, I'll stick with the 9400. As far as training, I
have been set up with Nevo for about 4 years, and have some of their gear in my own home.

It's funny how training is always the answer... that must be why Nevo bought those remotes back. Because I couldn't program them. RIGHT...

Hi bigdeal00,

You need to do more than just press the reset button.

Make sure you are running NSP ver 1.1

In Nevostudio Pro (NSP) go to ecosystem.
connect the NC-50 to the computer via usb.
press the icon that looks like a blue circle with black triangles either side of it.
select factory reset.

alternatively you could pull the power from the nc-50. press and hold the reset button. re-power the nc-50.
keep holding the reset until the light on connect flashes.

on the Q50.
go into settings
advanced
zwave
advanced
factory reset.

Start a new zwave network
follow the steps.
once finished
go into ecosystems
configure
optimize.

Test.
finished

Here's how you get to the Optimize screen:
- Touch the very top meny bar on Q50's screen, to pull down the Settings menu.
- Select Settings.
- Select the Advanced button at the bottom of the Settings screen.
- Select Ecosystem, then the Configure button.

got it -- it's still not finding the NC-50. I rreally think I got 2 bad NC-50's! I've done like 3 or 4 factory resets on the NC-50, and then cleared the Zwave config on the Q50 and then gone to "start new Z-Wave network" and it still says "failed" when I do the "find node" routine. I've completely removed it from my configuration in Studio Pro, then done a download to the controller, then re-installed the NC-50, and then re-download to the Q50. Nothing seems to be working.
