Anybody have a location for the discrete On/Off codes for the new Toshiba HD-A1 HD-DVD player that I can use in my MX-950?

Don't believe there are any. Since you have the 950, you can use variables to simulate discrete on/off commands.

On the HD-DVD subforum on AVS I asked the same question. One suggestion was to use the Play button command as a workaround for discrete on. That command does seem to work.

Variables on a DVD player are going to work about 60% of the time.

Issue that arrises. You stop the disk and ignore the player for a while. Or take a disk out. Well most units power off after a while of inactivity. Now your variable says the thing is on and its off. So... the sync of a macro or flag is wrong. So you need to press system off to clear the flag. Then when the DVD is still on you turn it off by hand. Then everything is synced back up again.

That's a good point. I'd agree if I were programming the remote for a customer. Too many things that can go wrong. Since he's programming it for himself, it should be less of an issue. Looks like he can use the old standby Play-Stop and Play-Power instead though.

For myself, variables on a DVD player are 100% relaible since neither I nor the player do any of the things you mentioned. ;-)

Go to AVS or JP1 forums and you'll find a discrete on code but no discrete off. You can use the discrete on+power toggle to create a discrete off but don't expect it to work because the unit may not respond to IR commands soon after the discrete on or play command are sent. Best bet would be to use the discrete on + a programmed variable to create a discrete off... this too will not be 100% but is probably the best available option

Surf Remote,

Well you know me... when I design remotes the first question I ask my self is...
"If I were an idiot, how would I expect this stuff to work?"

That lets me right the OS and GUI then I ask...
"Whats the worst that cold happen... or how can I severly F^%k this up and fix it in one button push."
Then I have to make that button.

OK guys, confused...again.

I have the MX800 and want to understand this "work around". Please explain what I program to get the simulation of discrete "on" and "off".

Thanks
