Hi,

I have the mx-500 and use it to control my xbox. I have a problem when I hit the keys with it and can't find anything about it on the web.

Almost every time I hit a key it moves the cursor on the xbox two places. For example, if I want to use the directional pad, it moves two locations. I have to hit the key, then cover the front of the remote to block the "extra" button send.

Does anyone know how to shorten the sending of they key or just to send one signal?

Thanks...

The MX remotes have this sort of 'issue' often. Try re-learning the code over and over until one of them 'takes' properly. The best advice I have been given is to repeatedly tap the button when learning it, instead of pressing and holding until it says done.

My advice is to create about 10 blank buttons and try learning it 10 different ways (from different distances, repeatedly tapping, etc.). This way, you dont have to download after every learning. It's always best to learn from a remote with new batteries, and in as little light as possible.

Repeated tappng is used for items like Vol +/-, so that the volume ramps up or down while holding it. I don't know if using that method will cause a "repeat" on your directional pad, but it can't hurt to try. I would first try learning with a single press and hold until it says "GOOD". If you get the same results, then try the tapping method.

Thank you,

Actually if you're trying NOT to repeat the command, I've found that the best thing to do (with the 500 at least) is to tap the original button only once during learning (quick press and release). Otherwise you always run the risk of the original remote sending the code more than once, and the MX-500 misinterpretting it.

dcheesi, you hit the nail on the head. Wow, I had no idea that the remote would even learn how long you sent it the IR signal.. how about that.

That did the trick... Thank you, everyone who posted to help me out...
