Use a 'go to page' in a macro for a return to
the page you were on.

But the whole point of a FAV page is that you can get to it from any of your activities or devces. How can I create a macro that returns to the page I was on if I could have come from one of many different places?

THATS why I said it would take awhile.

With a 950, you could have multiple pages, identicle in function, that would only be accessible from a designated page with a 'return' back to the page you were on when you accsessed it.

D'oh. Now I get it. Thanks!

(Boy, a "return to previous page" macro step sure would be nice...)

Take a closer look at your remote. The RW and
FF buttons are really two buttons each.

Thanks Fletch!
(And no, I'm not blind...I don't have an MX-950, and in fact I'm trying to talk myself out of wanting one.)

I see it in the editor now though. Very cool, although probably not superintuitive for guests - "Press the Back button...no, the OTHER Back button" :)

You could probably do a version of this with variables (different variables such as "From DVD" "From Tivo" etc). The only way I can get this to work is by nesting macros, however.

Are nested macros allowed in the MX950? As I recall, they didn't work in the MX700.

Getting way too close to talking myself into trying an MX-950...

I will put in my 2 cents at URC to get the "Return to" functionality in the 950.

I'll let you know what happens.

I would like the "return to previous page" as well. It would make a number of things easier.

Pilgram stated what I meant with using FAVs under the current setup, but even so, I don't usually access FAVS from more than two locations (SDTV tuner or HDTV tuner), so it's not that onerous to program separate pages and return buttons. When you're in a specifc device or activity other than the tuners (ex. DVD), you generally have no need to access FAVS.

One of the things that's been requested over the years has been FAVS that would change depending on what device you came from, so you could have 50 SD favs and 50 HD favs. Well, with the 950, you can have that.

Yeah, I thought about this too and couldn't figure out a way to do it. Since a variable can only have one of two values and a macro can only depend on one variable, I don't think variables help much...

"Return to previous page" is slated to be included in the MX-950 in an update a few weeks after CEDIA.

Here's how I think it would work - although as I said, it only functions if you can do nested macros (and if variable setting is relatively quick).

For simplicity's sake, let's say you want access to FAV (for surround options and lighting perhaps) from three possible devices - TIVO, DVD, and VCR. You create three variables - "From Tivo?" "From DVD?" and "From VCR?". The FAV button on each device would zero out and set the variables appropriately. So, the FAV button on your Tivo activity would set the From DVD and VCR variables to 0, while From Tivo variable gets a one before going to the FAV page.

Then, your "Return" button on your FAV page is a variable macro, linked to whichever device you're most likely to be coming from - lets say Tivo. If Tivo variable is 1, jump back to the Tivo device.

If Tivo variable is 0, another macro is activated. Let's call it "Check DVD" - it's hidden on some extra page somewhere. "Check DVD" is another variable macro, linked to the "From DVD?" variable. If DVD variable is 1, jump back to the DVD device. If DVD variable is 0, then activate the "Check VHS" hidden macro...which of course works just like the Check DVD did, but set for the VHS variable.

This could go on for as many devices as you need. Like I said, it requires nested macros (can anyone confirm?) and variable setting and macro nesting need to be fairly quick, particularly if you need access to FAV from a ton of different devices.

Of course, the "Return to previous page" function would make all this irrelevant :)

Wow, must learn to type faster - irrelevancy within weeks! Great work HTM and Gregorius!

Presumably this will be available via "Live Update".

Yes, it will apply to all MX-950's via "Live Update" as Fletch mentioned.

Now, look up and see I said a few weeks AFTER CEDIA. So, I hope you guys don't go complaining if you don't see it right away after CEDIA.

Greg :-)
