First post.....
I have a one year old MX-500 and have never had a learning problem until now. I just recently purchased a new Pioneer VSX-1014 receiver to replace my Pioneer VSX-D712.
My remote does not want to learn the A/V's listening mode commands and the commands that require a "shift" key to be pressed first.
I.E. to turn on dialog enhancement on the Pioneer I have to press "shift" hold and "dialog E". The strange thing is when I try and learn the listening modes and the "shift + commands", the MX-500 says "good". But, when I try it out on the A/V, it won't work!
The other commands it will learn.
With my old Pioneer receivers remote, I had no problems learning all the keys.
I have tried everything I can think of, and even called Home Theater Master who suggested I send them bith remotes so they could figure it out.

Plz help!!!

Thanx Gov

It couldn't hurt to send them the remotes - they can quickly analyze the codes themselves and see if perhaps they're outside of the range that the MX-500 can utilize. I'm wondering if the SHIFT command isn't sending a code by itself - when the MX-500 is learning, press SHIFT by itself. Does the MX-500 say "GOOD"? If so, it's a separate code that is sent to the receiver and needs to be learned to it's own button on the MX-500. Let me know how that goes!

David.....NO "shift" does not send out its own code, I tried that already. If I send them the remotes, will that mean that they can upgrade my MX-500 to accept the problem commands?

Thanx

Yes. They can potentially add the codes to your MX-500. There are some commands from various components that are just not learnable and that may likely be the only way to obtain them. The other possibility would be with IRClone, but you'd have to have the commands available from another source.

Thanx Mike, I just don't understand why the MX-500 says "good" but it is really good. Can you explain?

It is recording a command, so you get the "GOOD" signal. It has no way of knowing whether it got the full or correct command however. I'm just speculating here, but the IR string may just be too long for it to completely record.

Thanx.....I am not sure what I am going to do yet. Fortunately, I already had most of the Listening Modes already in my MX-500 from my other Pioneer receiver. I don't know whether or not it is worth me sending out the two remotes. I'll see.

Someone else out here has gotta have a VSX-1014TX or Elite 52TX and a MX-500. If so, I am curious if you are having this problem.

Thanx

Yes, I just received my MX-500 and I am having the same problem with the 1014. I can't get it to learn "Loudness", "THX" button, "Adv Surround", "Stereo", etc.

Did you ever get any resolution to this problem?

Thanks.

Eureka!
I was able to get the buttons learned
Steps:
1. Downloaded a remote control program for my PDA (TV Remote Controller) that accepts Pronto codes... been using it to give discrete codes to the MX-500
2. Used the PDA to learn the THX button from the Pioneer remote
3. Used the PDA as the source for learning the THX button on the MX-500

Success!

Well, at least to the surround mode and loudness buttons. I was not able to get the Sleep and Dialog Enhancement buttons learned.

I will though... I will.

And I did... 10 seconds later.

Sleep and Dialog Enhancement ARE learnable on this remote.

Now, I just need to re-design all of my screens.

I recently purchased an MX-500 and a Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K A/V receiver. I also had problems learning anything in the "Receiver Control" area from the Pioneer remote AXD7381. Like others here, the solution was to teach from the Pioneer remote to an intermediate learning remote, then re-teach to the MX-500. I have no idea why this would work but it does.

What remote are you using as the intermediate remote? I tried using my Pronto (which learned the codes and repeated them), but the MX-500 still couldn't learn from the Pronto.

Is there any code for Pioneer 1014 receiver that will put all of the basic functions on the HTM MX-500 (things like which components are selected for example)? I Know some need to be learned, but what about the basics?

Thanks.

I Have a more basic problem where its not even learning the component commands (i.e. DVD, TV, VCR. etc.).

Anyone have any suggestions?
