Yes, a good idea however by using (something like)
a software NetX you would not have to drop over
to one of the web browsers - you would be able
to remain within the "remote" part of the iPronto.

Yes ; a NetX-like program, inside the HTPC would be the best solution !!
..but while waiting this, what would be the actual best mean to command an HTPC from an Ipronto ? :
HTML command, Wi-fi command or IR command ?
Thanks for your ideas !

I guess that depends on whether you are happy dropping out to a web browser for some operations.

What I would like to do but don't have the skills to write is a web page which would run on the HTPC which simply displays a series of coverart thumbnails for the whole of my DVD collection - some 350 - 400 movies - which are all ripped to my server, and on clicking a thumbnail would just run a batch file to map that DVD's ISO image as a virtual drive which TheaterTek could then play.

At the moment I just use IR to control my HTPC.

Hello
Thanks for the reply
So your Ipronto commands your HTPC by IR ; but can you make all you want ?

Note : I did n't know Theater Tek ; it seems fabulous for a HTPC :)

I learned in the codes for a complete IR keyboard so I have all the "keys" I need to control my HTPC.

At the moment I'm also trying to get up to speed with a piece of software called "Meedio" (www.myhtpc.net) which is quite a nice HTPC front end but I'm just not getting the time to delve in to it and work out exactly how to set it all up. TheaterTek (www.theatertek.com) is great and there should be a new version being released shortly.

Hello,

As a new user of the Ipronto , I don't find the exact syntax to access from the Ipronto's browser, to an html page on a networked PC.

Can you help me ?

Thanks :)

note : the following syntax (which is OK between 2 networked PC), is not OK with the Ipronto's Browser:
file ://///PC_Name/PC_Disk/Directory/HTML page name

I tried also with this syntax and it's not OK:
[Link: PC_IP] page name.

You can't use machine names - you will have to use something like:

192.168.252:8000

(Which is what I used to have set up on my intranet for my firewall - IP Address : Port Number)

Ok for the IP address
but I don't understand what is the port number ":8000"
Where can I find the "Port number" ?
(No firewall in my Intranet)

->For example, what would be the exact syntax in my case :
if I want to call from my Ipronto, an Html page named "TEST.HTM" , which is in the directory C:\TEST\ on a networked HTPC whith has the IP 192.168.1.1 ?
(all my networked PC are 192.168.1.x)

Thanks for any help :)

If you're not serving the web page on a different port then you can omit the : part.

OK for omitting the :[portnumber] part

But can you write here for me the whole exact syntax I have to write in the Ipronto's browser ?

In my example , I want to access to :
File : TEST.HTM
This file is located in a Networked PC :
IP: 192.168.1.1 ,
in the Directory: C:/TEST/

note : perhaps, I must install an http server (like Apache) on my PC (XP Home) to allow this ?

Many thanks and best regards :)

Hello,

Can you access from the Ipronto's browser to the html frontal menu of the wi-fi Access point ?
It's Ok from any networked PC with the syntax http:// (WAP IP) , but its impossible from my Ipronto ("Unauthorized access")

Have you a solution ?
Thanks and best regards

That's odd.... Mine works fine for that.... Does your iPronto EPG and Update facility work fine? In other words, are you getting Wifi access at all at the moment with your iPronto?

No problem for my Ipronto to access to EPG, updates, IprontoEdit upload/download ..

When I write http:// (WAP IP), I have "401 unauthorized" and impossible to introduce the login and Pw
(no problem from others PC)

To acess to an html page in a networked PC, the only solution I found is to install a small html server in this PC
I choosed a french very small freeware :
[Link: fichiers.xgarreau.org]
-> all the files in the same directory as this program (It's the Web Dir) , are reachable from the Ipronto with the single syntax : http:/ PC_IP

But without an html server , I cannot access to anything from Ipronto to a PC , even with a syntax like : \\PC_IP\shared-directory\File.htm

an idea ? Thanks !

Never tried this one, but try it withouth either the "http://" or the "\\" part.

In other words, to access the router "192.168.1.1" or whatever, to access the file "PC_IP\Shared-directory\File.htm"

I don't use the http part to access my router...

You will need to run some sort of web server on the machine that you are holding your web page on.

Remember that this isn't a windows PC that you've got in your hand and so the "quick and dirty's" that work because of windows and windows file and directory sharing won't necesarily work on the iPronto.
