I have a Harmony 555 which developed a problem with the "1" button. As it was under 2 years old I contacted Logitech to have it repaired under warranty. To my surprise they said they will be sending me a replacement 555, and that the faulty 555 will have it's serial number deleted from their system and I should bin it. I assume this means I will not be able to reprogram the faulty 555.

I am sure I can repair the faulty button just by cleaning, but for the remote to be of any use I will need to reprogram it to add an extra device.

Does anyone know if there is a way to reprogram these remotes without using the Harmony programing interface?

i doubt it or s/one could just call in with BS and get a new rmeote for another room in the house or what have you. i recently went through the warrantly process with them, and the same thought crossed my mind... but only for a split second before logic kicked in. lol

heres what i wonder though... if you programmed the remote to operate in whatever room you want, then call in and complain of a non existent "broken button" and get a new one, what stops you from still using the old one? i went and threw mine out without trying it, as my right direcitonal button was FUBAR'ed so it wasnt worth keeping anyway. i know the old one cant be programmed any more but what stops one from continuing to use it in the same room with the same equipment they always did and getting the new one to use in a dfferent room...? as i didnt plug in the old one at anytime so i dont see how it could have been completely "disabled" from being used all together... ?

You can still use the old one but they can't stop you from using it as is (with no capability to update it).

Thanks.

That's what I thought. Just wish I knew their warranty process before I placed the call :)

I'm very happy with the warranty service from Logitech, so I can't complain.

Not sure if this will work, but can you teach the new remote all the commands that you would like to be on the broken remote then If I remember correctly is there not a function that will clone one harmony remote to another.

Once the OP updates the replacement remote he will no longer be able to update the old remote. And no there is no way to clone the new remote to the old remote without updating it online
