Has anybody tried to use a Harmony remote with NetStreams IRLinx?

I can buy a NetStreams remote but it sure would be nice to use the same remote for NetStreams and the entertainmant center. I currently have an IRLinx emitter mounted in the entertainment center. I wonder if I have the NetStreams remote could I teach the Harmony remote the commands and assign them to some button? I also have the hex codes for each NetStreams commands if that would help.

I know NetStreams has some compatability with RTI remotes (T4 I think) but I am looking for a $150-$200 remote.

Since no one was able to comment on this I decided to try out a Harmony remote and see if it was possible.

I purchased the inexpensive Harmony 550 and was able to program it for the DigiLinx system. I didn't have to learn the codes from the NetStreams remote because all of the IR functions were already in the Harmony database.

This is a good solution for the money as I can control the local room's audio as well as any other devices in the room. I can even invoke macros that were programmed into the DigiLinx system. It is certainly better than the limited 10 button NetStreams remote. Probably not as good as an RF remote, but for the money I don't think you can beat it.

Hi there,

I've been looking at the Netstreams products for a few weeks now and the price of remotes / keypads for it is puting me off.

Can I ask how you got on with the Harmony 1000 with it ? As that looks like an ideal solution to controlling it ?

Thanks,
Roy.

Yeah the price of their touch screens is a bit pricey but they have the intercom built in a few hard buttons and IR receivers. I used the touch screens sparingly and went with their 10 button keypads. The 10 button keypads have an IR receiver built in and I was able to use the Harmony to activate all of the IR functions of the system. The only one that was missing that I have found so far is the "do not disturb" function of the intercom.

You can look at the Harmony website [Link: logitech.com] to see what has been programmed for NetStreams. Search by Digital Music Server then NetStreams then TL-380. There might be other model numbers but the DigiLinx system has lots of pieces to it so it's hard to know what someone might have entered into the Harmony database.

Once you select your device, you can set up sequences and activities to activate sources on the system. It took a few hours for me to learn the Harmony wizard and get everything programmed and keys mapped the way I wanted.

Remember too that you can use a web tablet or PDA to control the system as well. As long as it can run Flash. The drawback is that you may still have remotes for your other devices that can't be replaced by a web tablet.

I have detailed my system on another forum. Check it out here: [Link: avsforum.com]
