The british models would be great for digital cable boxes here in the states the a,b,c buttons would map nicely to the colored buttons. and they can work any programmed command. i just wish the price to optain here in us would come down. or harmony should release a us version with those same butons Are the "teletext" buttons on the European Harmonies user-assignable?

I've had my Harmony 550 since Christmas and have grown to love it. It controls each of my components in every way I want giving me a truly universal remote. The sleek design and small size is something I liked from the beginning. Because of its size and button placement it did take a while to get used to it and I even considered exchanging it for the 670. Now I'm glad I didn't. The 670 is advertised to be especially good for DVR (PVR, Tivo) replacement and that was of real interest to me. However, I've been able to program the 550 to control the DVR portion of my STB and all is wonderful.
The only characteristic of the 550 which is taking some getting used to is the size of the buttons, especially the numbered ones. I often change channels using the numbered buttons and since they are located at the bottom it's natural for me to use my thumb. Because of the smaller size and location it's taken a bit of getting used to and occasionally I'll miss "dial" a channel. This was a real concern for me the first week or so, but I'm slowly becoming accustomed to this. In the end the size and style of the 550 is really appealing to me and that overcomes the button size and placement.
It also occurred to me that since I had used the "universal" remote which came with my STB for over 3 years, changing to any new remote would take some getting used too. I have no doubt that before long I can work with the 550 blindfolded just as I could with the other one.
I should mention that the software was a bit unusual and it took me a while before I really understood it well. I did work for me with no glitches at all. Also, I called Logitech support with questions a couple of times and found the wait time was never longer than about 5 minutes. These were daytime calls so I can't speak to what it's like in the evenings. The level one support answered all my questions.

I would suspect one reason for not making the xx5 versions available in the US is that we in the UK would find a way to buy them from the US at (effectively) half price.

I am on the fence about the 550/670/880. I am leaning toward the 550. The main thing I want to make sure it controls my HR20. Is anyone else using the 550 to control the HR20? Where do they put the 5 sec skip back button? I use this button alot. Anyone else with the HR20 have any reason I should choose one of these remotes over the other?

I'm using a 720 for my hr20 and if I had it to do over again I'd probably get the 670 - much better button layout than the others for DVR use.

Is there any significant difference between the 550 and the others apart from the shape?

i prefer the 720 to the others, im not a fan of the peanut shape, and the retro styling looks great. i guess im just more a fan of the sharp edges. plus its basically an 880, with the color screen, its just more durable than an 880.

Lots of devices now use RGBY buttons for navigation and on-screen options, so this remote would be almost perfect if the four colored buttons were moved ABOVE the numbers. The current location at the end of the remote is suited only for buttons that are infrequently used ...

Does the 880 have "Sound" and "Picture" keys? I am thinking of replacing a 680 with an 880, but do not want to give up those two keys, which are essential to the way I have set up the remote.
