My TV (a Vizio 37" LCD) which is not directly supported in the Harmony database has one input selection button. You have to push it once to get into the selection menu, then push it again to move through the selections. I will not keep sync'd up I think due to the fact that you have to push the button once to get into the selection menu. It also has an AV button which if you push that it will put you at the top of the list and I tried using that for a semi-custom solution but the software would not program it as it said the button was labeled _ or - and that is not an acceptable character. I see no way to re-label the button in their software.

Go into options for the Device, then customize device sound and picture buttons. You can change the label there.

You should be able to use the first option if you tell it that you push one button to bring up the menu and another button to cycle through the inputs. Obviously in your case it's the same button.

I just cannot get this thing to work. Tried a custom button to take me to the first input, then another custom button programmed via infrared to take me to the right input after that, but I just can't get it to work.

Have you gone through the "Adjust inputs" setup for the TV device?

There is an option in there for the input selection method you mention(one button to bring up a menu, another button to move through the list, a third button to make the selection). In your case you would use the same button for the first 2 steps, and no command for the final step.

Try the "Confirm infrared commands" under TV Device > More Options. The Tutor might be able to find a better IR database match for your TV.

Ok, I finally got the inputs on the TV to behave properly and they switch quite effectively between 3 devices, however now I have a weird problem that has me stumped. If I do an activity like "listen to radio" or "listen to CD" that has absolutely nothing to do with the TV, somehow the input selection gets out of lockstep with the remote. Very strange as the TV retains the last input it had when it is powered off, as it is when these activities are run. Thanks for the help.

Make sure the TV input is set correctly for every activity that it appears in (or make sure it's not included if it's not supposed to be). There are options in the TV input settings about whether the TV goes to the same input when it's powered on or if it goes to the last input selected. Re-run the input setup and answer all of those questions correctly. If everything appears to be setup correctly but it still screws up, try increasing the inter-device delay for the TV.

I would think that the input where you tell it that the TV remembers the last input it was on as picks up from where it left off is set properly as I can switch between 3 video modes with no trouble. It's only when I go into a couple audio only modes that I run into trouble.

Is the TV part of those activities? If so, check the input settings for the TV for those activities. Do you have any extra commands at the beginning or end of those activities?

Wacnstac, switching between 3 video modes does not prove that the TV powering-on input state is setup properly because when switching between various TV activities, the TV is already on. When you switch from the "off" state, OR from an audio only activity, to a video activity, then the TV must be powered on. If I assume you have setup the TV powering-on behaviour correctly, then my guess is you need to increase the TV "Power On" delay.

The TV is not part of any of the pure audio activities such as listen to CD or listen to radio. The tv gets powered off during these events.

Can you confirm that if you are in one of your activities that use the TV and you switch everything off with the off button, then select a *different* activity that includes the TV with a *different input* that everything works OK? [Note it is important that you turn everything off and not just switch activities in this experiment]

If the above isn't working correctly, then it will most likely be (as jlet suggested) that the problem is the TV "Power On" delay. This would explain why switching from an audio activity to a TV activity exhibits this problem .... as it involves turning the TV on; it isn't the turning off of the TV that could be the problem but the turning on.

If the above does work then I'm a bit mystified as to what the problem could be .... I think you might need to explain what options/commands you used to fix your input selection problem that you initially had. Maybe this would shed some light on the problem.

The Power On delay did it guys. Thanks a lot. On to bigger and better things.
