Hi,
This seemed the only appropriate place to post this.

I currently have a Sony Wega KV-27FV300. It sits upon a regular TV stand with a swivel stand directly under the TV. I have a cable box about a foot underneath the tv, separated by wood. With a game system, DVD player, VCR, and tuner system about 2 feet below the tv. Now I tell you this because I think it might have something to do with the problem I am having.

When my TV sits pretty parallel to the TV stand, meaning none of the TV hangs over the edge it is fine. But, when I use the swivel and tilt it severly so that the TV hangs over and winds up almost 65 degrees to the TV stand it produces a greenish/purplish discoloration (depending on the background) on the left corners of the TV. When I swivel so TV faces left, the discoloration appears in the bottom left corner. Facing right, it appears in top left corner.

When I turn TV back to the main viewing area the discoloration is slight, but there and I have to unplug TV and plug in again to reset and discoloration vanishes. I recall this also happening to another Sony 27 I had prior.

Does anybody know what the hell I am talking about and is there anything at all I can do?? Please help!!!
Thanks in advance to anyone with help and/or feedback.

Where are the speakers? They're culprits.

I think the Home Theater topic forum would have been better. ;-)

Although speakers or another metal object is the likely culprit (when you turn it off you "degauss" the TV and remove low levels of magnetic residue), I have seen this occur in the middle of a room before, without any close magnetic sources. It that case the set was just REALLY sensitive to the earth's magnetic field. So much so that it could only face one direction without some form of distortion.

Thanks. If I keep this going as there is nothing really I can do..will it cause longterm damage to the tv at all?
Thanks again.

it should not, but it will get worst with time if you don't find the problem and remove it. You can always use a strong magnet to demagnetise the TV, but if the field is still around it will just come back.

this reminds me of a case a few years back. We were installing a new VC in one of our plants. Part of the package is a TV, and when the install was done the screen was a total mess of greens and purples. The boxed looked a bit banged up so we told the installers to swap out the TV. A few days latter a new TV was brought in, and again the same problem. What we found out was that the store room was at the other end of the potlines and the TV was rolled through the room (for those that don't know potlines are giant electrolysis baths used to get aluminium from alumina.).

some of the replys on the other forums are well over the top i had to check it wasnt the intermission forum.
heres my 2 cents

what you need to do is get a hobby like stamp collecting ,maybe join a gym or become a member of a local drama society thus taking your time away from watching the tv .
Or you could watch the tv through THX blue filter glasses all the time that will reduce the amount of colors you can see.
Or Get magneto from the Xmen round to zap the set.
OR get the birds from the alfred hitchock film to eat your eyes .
Or Trip your t*ts off on LSD so the colors just look pretty.
any of these are as realistic as building a steel box round your TV (very attractive) as one guy suggested

wait a minute.......didn't magneto wear those THX glasses all the time because Hitchcock's Birds pecked his eyes out 'cause they were tripped out on LSD, and if he ever took them off he'd zap whatever he was lookin' at?

mmmm...........never mind.......that was cyclops, wasn't it?

and, and, and the steel box should be lead to keep the kryptonite rays........wait, that's a different comic book, in'it?

So......YEAH!.........get a hobby, dude!!!!!
