i have an ancient (circa 1991) pioneer vsx-9900s a/v receiver. the discrete power codes listed in the files section don't work right (they both toggle input attenuation).

any hints on the right codes or how to find them?

thanks.

There are files here for the vsx-9500 and 9700. Both use the same commands posted in the discrete section.

There are two other alternate pioneer device codes and I have gnerated both command sets. I really think you probably did something wrong. My 15 year old Pioneer VSX 5300 responds to the generic discrete power commands as posted.

Does your 9900 respond to any of the input commands posted in the discrete section?

Here are the alternates:

thanks for the quick response!

unfortunately, the 9500s and 9700s ccf's have the same problem with my receiver: the old discrete power codes toggle input attenutation. and the new codes you suggested have no effect on the receiver at all.

the input select codes listed in the file section do work, but my remote has discrete input select codes anyway.

any other brilliant ideas?

thanks.

If you have OFA/RS remote, using Setup code AMP0013, the discrete on-247. discrete off-251. They work on my 14-year-old VSX-D1S.

Allyn,

Since your receiver responds to the Input commands, then the discrete commands should work. I can generate all of the commands for that device Pioneer:165 and you can try them all. This is tedious but may get what you want.

Better yet is that many receivers will turn on if you select a discrete input from Off -- sometimes you have to hold it down longer. For some reason they don't always do it on all inputs. If that works then you can create a macro for off which is input|power toggle.

Edmund, the commands posted for discrete power and inputs at RC are for Audio_0013, but if Allyn has an OFA remote it is always a good idea to try it. The two alternates that I posted above are Audio_0014 and Audio_0630.

jon, thanks for your additional help.

i don't have an ofa remote but i might go get one.

a fabulous find was with the 9500s ccf in the files section, the author had included a ccf that had all of the device=165 codes already in it. i downloaded it and tried to press each of the "not already assigned" codes and got nothing but i think i'll try it again because i might have gone too fast or not held the buttons down long enough.

i just tried the "will it turn on with input select" and the answer is a definite no. :-(

edmund, thanks for posting what works with your d1s. that is the closest model to the 9900s.

i had something funny happen a couple of days ago as i was scouring google web and groups to find out what other models came right before and right after the 9900s, i found a helpful message containing all of the info that I MYSELF HAD POSTED IN 1992! who knew i would be needing that information again 11 years later! it is like i left myself a note in a bottle to be found later. hurray for google groups!

anyway, it is very frustrating as so far it seems i have the only receiver pioneer has ever made that does not have discrete power codes. :-(

i really appreciate all the help i am getting. i haven't given up yet.

Allyn,

If you really want to do scientific research, learn all the commands on the OEM remote and send me the ccf file. Some Pioneer equipment use a needlessly complex double command. The two commands are different and they need to be in sequence. I have always thought this was a more recent trend, but if I see any of those commands in your learned ccf I may be able to compare them to the more current stuff. This is a real long shot, however.

BTW, I don't think the OFA remote will do anything the Pronto cant do. This is not a slam on the OFA's. I am very active with the JP1 group with the OFA's so they are awesome witht he JP1 cable. Other than the display you can create any signal that a Pronto can do. if you do get one, make sure it has the JP1 plug in the battery compartment. www.hifi-remote.com for details.

The newer ofa remotes don't have code AMP0013, you an get the RS 15-2103 for $12,and it has code AMP0013.

True, but the RS15-2104 has both the built in setup code Audio_0013 and a JP1 plug in its battery compartment. They are being closed out for ~$20.

jon, i am going to mail you my ccf file that has all of the oem remote buttons. a few of the codes are dirty but most of them are ok. if you need any dirty codes relearned, let me know.

is it possible that my receiver uses a different device code for the discrete on/off commands (something other than 165)?

regarding the ofa remotes, are you guys saying that AMP0013 and Audio_0013 are the same or different? i'd much rather spend $12 on a remote that i don't really want than $20 and i don't suspect i'd use the jp1 functionality.

thanks.

Yes, AMP0013, AUX0013, RCVR0013, and AUDIO 0013 are all the same. It depends on which remote your dealing with. Both 2103 and 2104 use AUX button for Audio codes.

well, i bought a 15-2103. i was startled to find that out of the box it powered up my rca tv and pioneer receiver (power functions was all i tested).

i am sorry to say that setting aux to 0013 and trying the advanced functions 247 and 251 gave me the same result as the discrete codes in the library here. :-( both codes toggle input attenuation.

i wonder if this is a bug in the receiver since every other pioneer receiver responds to these codes.

oh well, guess it was about time to replace the old thing anyway. still, a major disappointment!

thanks for all your help, jon and edmund. btw jon did you ever get a chance to look at the ccf i sent you?

Allyn,

I did look at the ccf file and I didn't see any pattern. Unfortunately, not all equipment responds to discrete commands.
