I have a Motorola DCH3200 cable box from Charter. The work around for discrete on off is:

On: Info, Power, Power

Off: Info, Power

So...

the old... menu>power>power=On and menu>power=Off does not work in your market? Do you have to enter the power before info for On?

This usually works in most markets because menu with the power off brings up the motorola basic setup menu and not the provider's software menu. I suppose, though, that the firmware could still be different in this regard.

It's info not menu. I edited my post. You were right about the On sequence.

Menu, Power works until you have a DVR that is recording. Instead of doing what you want it to, a pop up window says, "Do you want to cancel recording" and your workaround just took a dive.

That is why I gave up on workarounds a long time ago.

Funny... I was in some training at AV*D about a year and a half ago when some guy began complaining about cable box power and control issues at which time I said, "...sure you can..." I have never seen so many people scramble for pencils and paper so fast in my life. It disrupted the training for about 5 minutes as the excitement bubbled over.

"Poor suckers", I thought to myself.

The good thing is that you can leave them on all the time and have no issues. Even if power goes off at the house, they will still power back up by themselves.

To get the workaround to work when recording, add a Live command to the macros.

On : Menu, Power, Power, Live

Off: Menu, Power, Live

I also add a volume commands to the On macro in case Mute happens to be on. Just an extra precaution, but not necessary.

On: Menu, Power, Power, Live, Vol+,Vol-

I find these macros work reliably and have not had any problem with these boxes in months using these commands.

I have 2 boxes and do keep 1 on all the time, since it is not visible. The other is visible and I do not want to see the display (channel or time) when it is not in use. So I use these macros. Would gladly leave it on if I could turn off the display.
