Well put, Damon.

Trusting the word of a social architect like Al would require me to give up more than my SUV. If he wants to play God let him start by washing my feet.

There are and will be solutions. There will be breakthroughs that will render fossil fuels worthless. There are just too many good people working on the solution. With the advent of the internet (Al, you poser), it will be much more difficult for those in power to patch up the crack in their going concerns when great things are developed from so many directions.

There's gotta be a reason why there have been no new refineries built in the US for many years while the old are falling apart. They must know their time is limited.

Things could work out.

Do we need to find alternative energy sources
- absolutely.

I am not buying into anything that any politician
is selling, unless that politician is out there
on the frontlines doing something to make a difference,
rather than making movies to tell us how to do
it.

If Gore started a campaign and took it before the
federal government (for a legitimate cause, like
the environment), then I'd take him seriously.
Until then, we'll just have to wait for our current
face of government's term to expire.

Politics aside... Gore has been on this a long time, and I'm certainly no fan of his, or for that matter any of the politicians out there... But, in the next month or so, if you are really bored, you will probably find the movie at your local video store... It's worth a viewing, at least to see one side of the story.
Parts of it are pretty interesting, and well I guess ya gotta take the the B.S. with the facts.

There is probably a grain of truth in there - and I can't really explain why Greenland & the Polar ice caps are melting, at such accelerated rates, or why temperatures are a couple degrees above the norm etc. Might just be the natural course of things who knows?

I have noticed that when I eat my Ben & Jerry's ice cream, it does seem to melt faster than it used to!

Not being of a deeply scientific background, like some of the guys on RC, I just have to try and educate myself via the general media out there... and yep, that is a really scary thought!

Gore, has said (and he mentioned this in the documentary), that he isn't going back into politics - that he is really on a mission with this global warming issue...
I wouldn't bet any money on him not jumping back into politics, as we all know that our politicians are basically walking fecal-impactions.
Anyway I appreciate all of the feedback, and if anybody knows of any really good articles, pro or con, you can email me if ya want!

Actually the Greenland icecap is thickening, I heard it from Rush.
At the same time the snows of Kilimanjaro are rapidly fading away.

If you check out both statements, they are both true.

With a little more research, like reading past the headlines, you will find that the reason the Greenland icecap is thickening is due to increased temperature which causes more moisture in the air, more snowfall, and a thickening of the ice cap. On Kilimanjaro the temperature has not changed but the cutting down of the jungles around the mountain has reduced the moisture in the air, so no more snow.

Anyone who cares about this issue should read Crichtons State of Fear. While the book has a lot of facts about global warming, the main point of the book is about how the media(both sides) use facts to support their side while not telling the whole story.
All research in this world is funded by someone or some government. If a scientist does not come up with facts to support the funder's agenda he will loose his funding.

This has always skewed results, and everyone has an agenda.

I remember reading several years back in LA times that there is an extremely large amount of oil here under Beverely Hill. One of the largest deposits in the world as they claimed in the world.

Why not let the middle east export all thier oil until it is gone, we still are able survive as a nation. What are they gonna do when the oil runs out. Some countries might corner the market on sand...

I swear that I'm not making this up.

I once heard Rush (when talking about a story regarding how global warming was threatening polar bears) reply (paraphrasing from memory) "Folks, do you really think that we're going to let all of the polar bears die? If nothing else, I'm sure that we'd pick them all up and take them to zoos to live"

Well, that makes me feel a lot better about the prospect of man's impact on the environment. Knowing that the polar bears have zoos to fall back upon will allow me to sleep much easier tonight.
