I am looking for some input on DVD management. Forget Kalaidescope!! I have approx. 500 DVDs on a shelf and a single disc player Sony DVP NS900V. Looking to make this situation more manageable. What do you all think. Thanks Tom

Yeah but for 250 DVD's your talking $8600.00, right? I agree its slick but damn what a price tag!

I would be content with 2 sony 400 disc changers, and the Escient DVDM-100 ddeca mentioned above and still have enough money to vacation and buy a six pack. I guess its up to how user friendly you want it to be! Keep in mind the easier the more expensive.

I guess even the least Escient (1999.00) that would control more than one 400 disc from Sony would still be in the circa $4000.00 range that is a lot of money to pay for convenience.
Sony DVP 777ES (list $800.00 x 2= 1600.00)
Escient DVDM-100(list 1999.00 x 1=1999.00)

I really like my sony dvp 985. Just does not have hdmi, but the upgraded dvp995 does. Probably your lowest cost option out there.

I had my Home Theater put in by an installer but when I need to replace an indivdual unit e.g. DVD player I will do it myself. I would have to see Escient in action in some showroom floor Tweeter, Home Theater store etc. before I would consider the expense. It has a large hard drive for music which I do not relly need, I use Rhapsody, i-tunes, windows media (which seldom works) and a Roku receiver connected to my whole house music system for music. I manage my DVDs on Collectorz.com. but Sittting in my theater and being able to access any one of my DVDs whenever I want would be almost as good as sex ( I said almost). I appreciate the replys I have received and I have learned from them. Thanks Tom

as for money its the best money i've spent on myself since i bought my boat, or my suburban z-71......

i work for toys not for food...lol

tes918 if your a dealer or work for a dealer xperinet has a great employee or demo program so it wont be $7800 bucks..... plus its freaking cool that i can access any dvd in less than 5 seconds.....

ceid,

They are like 45 mins from my house. I am over in Rockville and Xperinet is over in Baltimore. Proximity alone makes me want to just drop in on them and see if I can get my boss to pick up the line... but alas our customers have money but they hold on to it real tight!

My old job they would have carried that line. But the current guy is much more of a 1/2 days per job and those people ain't buying no 20 grand dvd server.

But I was thinking over the changer thing the other day buck for buck.

Using myself as a base line...
I HAVE A LOT OF DVDS!
But not only that I am a big fan of some TV shows... Lets take for example my dorky need to watch Star Trek TNG. I have all 7 seasons

Each season has 7 discs in it
I watch 24 Religiously... 4 seasons with 6 discs
I was addicted to Farscape 4 seasons with like 8 discs per season
House you say. 1 season on DVD and you know I will be there the day I can get season 2.
Battlestar Galactica. Orginal and hte current... if its on DVD I have it.

I WOULD NEED THE BIGGEST MOST EXPENSIVE HARD DRIVE TO STORE MY STUFF. (In ISOs that is)

Things I would have got if I only had had the money.

I WOULD HAVE GIVEN UP PARTS OF MY ANATOMY if I ever could have gotten the NHT 3.3s I drooled over for years. Now that I am established and can actually afford them... GONE! My T6s just ain't 3.3s :( I had 2.9s but they were changing to the Evo series and my boss... errr lets not reopen that wound.

Its funny thou... when I used to work with the stuff I wanted I couldn't afford it. Now I work with stuff I can afford I don't want it!
:)

DAMN THIS MAKING A LIVING THING!

i love mine...... i sold one literally in 30 seconds the other day......

i put mine in a customers house for demo...... before i could get 10 seconds into the fleetwood mac concert dvd my customer says this is fuc?ing cool.... i then change to a movie right away........ customer again says this is fuc?ing cool..... i then say get your favorite cd from your collection..... he loads it..... while he is loading it he says" how much will this cost me" i say about 8k plus labor, we then put on his nirvana cd that he loaded..... again this is fuc?ing cool... order it now... here is your check. sold less than 4 minutes from demo to check.

wish all my customers were this awsome.

Another vote for the escient. The new SE-D1 is pretty affordable at $1K but I believe it can only connect to one Sony 777ES changer. For more, go to the DVDM-100 which can connect to 3 changers. It doesn't have a harddrive built in, though, for music (like the DVDM-300).

yeah but you have to wait like 50 or 60 seconds for movie or cd to load and start...then you still have to watch previews......

thats more time than i can spare to wait for my movie

It actually usually skips directly to the movie. In some cases, the DVD locks that option out, but typically you are at the movie in about 30 seconds. I can spare that kind of time if I'm going to sit through an hour or two of media. Plus with the
$ I save buying a changer based system, I can afford a whole heck of a lot of movies, plus I can spare to take some time off if needed. No doubt about it, the drive based systems like Kaleidescape, Max, etc. are fantastic, but not for everyone.

Anyone concerned about changing standards ie Blu Ray and what this will do to their servers or controllers?
