Guys,

Expect to see this list in some official form
(not at RC) soon.

Hey, 3xQ ... did you ever get around to posting this somewhere (IP?).

Funny you bumped this as I was just thinking about it and then clicked here and lo and behold your post. I've investigated a few options but still haven't found anything I'm satisfied with. I thought I had as of that last post you quoted...

Haven't forgotten about it but if I do it I want to present the data in a good usable online format.

If you need some assistance, or a website at which to host this, I'm happy to help. Have a pretty full schedule, but this is definitely a worthwhile effort so willing to commit to some time.

One simple way to start (though hard to scale, natch) might be an Excel spreadsheet? Perhaps host this at

Where does all the "data" live right now? Is it all in this thread? Any of it in your email inbox?

Another potential issue - liability. You know how _some_ manufacturers aren't above penalizing honest folk for their honest opinion ... so, perhaps adding some measure of anonymity to the reviews would be worthwhile - though that could well make the underlying data suspect, especially after time. Would also make it hard for folks to ask for further clarification from those posting their reviews.

So instead of anonymity, perhaps a better approach would be to post this in a protected/private forum ... e.g., @ IP.

Another good one would be rating for tech support.

And good Reps!~ Guys that will actually hang with us smaller CI companies, and return calls, loan products etc. just like they do with some of the bigger guys... :)

Why not just set up a reviews section somewhere that people can enter their personal experiences with various pieces of equipment or systems? Something like this... [Link: boatertalk.com]

Seems like this would be the easiest way to do this.

This is our way of sticking it to The Man.

I wonder if all the data can be summed up into secondary database, similar to a rating system that Ebay has for sellers and such.

Once the ball got rolling on this, I wonder if CEDIA would be interested in allocating the database.

Because IMO there are already plenty of forums to just post about product and they are not particularly useful when it comes to presenting info in a structured way. If I do it I will do in an online searchable database format that will provide an objective as well as subjective criteria for each component. If someone searches on product ABC I want them to see a full rating based on an established set of criteria.

i.e. Objective
Discrete IR control for all commands "Yes"
RS-232 "No"
Rear IR Input "No"

i.e. Subjective
Lots of panel registration errors reported with this projector
Tech support is diffult to reach

There you go TripQ, take this to the EIA, TIA,
CEA, FBI, etc. and attempt to make it a recognized
standard like Wesley did with his idea...

Gee, o second one, why the vicious attitude?

Perhaps you can go down in the halls of obscurity
like the rest of the people who write standards!!

That didn't happen to Frank Sinatra ;-)

Because Sinatra never wrote any song he sang.

One of his hits in the early to middle forties was "Nancy with the Laughing Face," which HE WROTE as a love poem to his wife, by whom he had daughter Nancy "Boots" "Something Silly" Sinatra. He divorced her some time later, but hey, we don't still use or carry all the same brands we useta, do we?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

According to the CD in front of me, "Nancy with the smiling face" was wriiten by Phil Silvers and Jimmy Van Heusen.
