We should move this thing (especially the link to the list) to the verified section of IP... We can keep this to remotes, because that is the reason for this site, but the discussion of components should remain between pros so that all eyes seeing the info have similar perspectives.

Consumers are second guessing us often enough, and we don't need to give them any more info which could be taken out of context...

Rick,

I'm still considering setting up a useful database for this and I've also had some other people express interest in same. I'll keep everyone updated. IF we do anything it will be sortable by manufacturer make and model.

Bad: Toshiba J35

Only high def STB/PVR that records in HD I know of, but the thing locks up a lot and has neither discretes or workarounds. Really sick of having to stick a little note in the macro status page telling the customer to hit a power toggle on the next page if there's no picture.

Totally Disagree with the Onkyo reccomendation.
We had to drop onkyo due to volitale memory in
the Receivers. After lighting storms we wouild
have to visit just about every one of the receivers
we put in. After a surge our outage they loose
the surround sound setup.. wich the customer might
not notice right away. Would they do notice is
how the Component Video is no longer synced to
the coresponding Digital Audio in. After of 6
to 7 returns per client. Doesn't matter that we
could walk them through how to set them correct
again. They wanted us to come out there and do
it for them. "Because we payed XXX dollars for
this."

Only had that problem a couple of times ever. Just to be on the safe side, there is a default - like Component 1 input may tend to be defaulted to the DVD and Component 2 to Video 1 - I would connect them that way and not make an unnecessary switch that has to be set in the input setup. In case of any power glitches, the default will take care of you.

I might do the same with the digital ins - use a coax if that's the default for the DVD, for instance.

Just a little thing that could make a difference.

I've sold Onkyo since '88 and Integra since they first hit the market and they have been good.

Excellent:

- Integra (except for their re-branded Imerge
piece)

Can you elaborate on the problems you have had? I'm considering a B-stock piece for my own system but don't want to mess with it if it is a trouble spot.

That might be one of my units!

I had ordered a couple of these when I first became a dealer. We had 2 of 3 of these go bad. One was DOA. Thea other went bad after I had loaded about 350 discs in 1 at a time!!

Other than that they cannot be mass loaded (except for a VERY expensive PowerFile) poor user interface, poor IR codeset. All in all it is bested in every way by the Fireball. The one cool feature is the NET-TUNE to the small network receivers. Let me know if you get the server, I have a couple of the network receivers left.

Other than that Integra is FANTASTIC in every catagory.

Great thread (again). It's nice to see some unity and cohesiveness in our industry.

I've seen behaviour over the years amongst ourselves, trashtalk and petty competitiveness, that somewhat baffles me. We're all better off helping each other out and promoting our industry by standards bearing and political lobbying.... does CEDIA have a bigwig lobbyist in the 87 miles surrounded by reality?

You gonna put this up at Wesley's site, so it looks like you are doing something for industry like him.

And they said it couldn't be done!

Check out the ISF Display Chart being constructed by the members of the ISF Forum. As a means of promoting the manufacture of calibration-friendly displays, we are developing a publicly accessible database of desired features, coupled with a private back-end that has more detailed information that is in the process of being "peer-reviewed" or that is best left in the hands of verified professionals.

There you go TripQ, take this to the EIA, TIA, CEA, FBI, etc. and attempt to make it a recognized standard like Wesley did with his idea...
Perhaps you can go down in the halls of obscurity like the rest of the people who write standards!!

Because Sinatra never wrote any song he sang. He was a singer, an interpretor of lyrics but anyone who ever heard Sinatra speak might have a clue that writing songs was not his forte. But it was a good line.
