Great thread.

This is what I was hoping for when I started the review section at IP.com

[Link: integrationpros.com]

For my good list.

Crestron, hands down, best product, best service.

RTI, RF almost as good as true blue and easy to program.

B&K, there dealer program is really tailored to what CI guys need. There products are too.

Runco, after being a Sim2 guy for years we recently dropped them for Runco and found they have two things Sim2 is missing. Service and support.

The bad list.

Almost all main stream TV brands, its faster to mention the exceptions (Sony, JVC, LG) than the offenders

Universal Remote Control, when I called in with a RF problem on my first MX800, they said they’d never heard of any problems, when I told them I did a search here and found 50 other guys with similar problems, the tech accused me of lying. I’m done with these guys, this product is crap.

Rick - don't know which JVC S-VHS VCR's you've
been installing, but every one I've ever sold
(and owned) had rear AV inputs and worked well
with discrete everything. We've sold hundreds
of these over the years, and have maybe had two
or three service issues of any kind. I would
have put them in the Excellent column if it weren't
for the fact that nobody wants a VCR anymore...

It was a current model, the HR-S5902U... MSRP $229.

Even the $559 HR-S5911U only lists one S-Video input, and it's on the front panel...

for the 5902u

Front and rear S-Video Inputs
S-Video Output on Back Panel

Totally Disagree with the Onkyo reccomendation. We had to drop onkyo due to volitale memory in the Receivers. After lighting storms we wouild have to visit just about every one of the receivers we put in. After a surge our outage they loose the surround sound setup.. wich the customer might not notice right away. Would they do notice is how the Component Video is no longer synced to the coresponding Digital Audio in. After of 6 to 7 returns per client. Doesn't matter that we could walk them through how to set them correct again. They wanted us to come out there and do it for them. "Because we payed XXX dollars for this."

Kicked Onkyo and now we have time to actually make money on new installs. Also cutomers are more likly to remember that we took care of them and it worked. The Onkyo Owners were really annoyed when we asked to swap out the receivers. We ended up giving them other brands at cost just to stop the bleeding. Lost money all around, but it costs less than sending techs over there after every rain.

Right. A client's assistant who has seen a TSU7000
was just shaking his head at how much better an
RTI T2+ was (this in combo with an RP-6).

Seriously? What part did they like better? I just replaced a T2 with a TSU7500 and RFX6500. The customer actually called to thank my boss. Usually no news is good news.

I am just starting work with the RTI line. Getting used to the Software is going to take me a while as I am used to being able to just drop in a code without all the extra steps. The T2+ has a noticeable advantage over say the MX850 in RF but in IR the MX is way faster.

My plan was to skip the T2+ and start on the T3 and T4. But ofcourse sales gets to make choices untill I am mind set.

Ditto the bad on Sharp - especially their customer service, absolute carp!

Russound and Parasound make the top of my list in terms of product quality/features, bang4buck and customer support.

I'd be happy to throw a quick database/ASP page together to track the good, bad, and ugly and host it... I think I'll actually work on that tonight. :) Some other feedback as to how you'd like it organized/displayed/queried would be helpful.

I definately agree. I also was told by a distributor that HP is adding IR in jacks to their plasmas as well as removable side speakers, also a plus.

I agree.

Good: Genelec, Marantz, Stewart, Fortress, Niles, Harmony, Energy, Epson, Totem, Vantage & AMX

Bad: Infocus, NAD, Draper, Yamaha (too damn many effects and layers of control for the average user), Omni mount, Harmon Kardon (horrible supplied remotes), AV*D... Getting too big, too spread out, impossible to get through on the phone, signing on too many slammers, BOSE, Monster Cable (need I explain)? :)

Well guys, I've got the rudimentary database put together - now I just need to do the coding for hosting it online... Oh to have a licensed copy of Cold Fusion - it'd be done already as I know that system very well. Oh well - this'll be a good way for me to learn to migrate to ASP - even on a rudimentary level. :) Input is most definitely welcome on what you guys would like to see or, if you're serious about wanting a data-driven site for ratings of manufacturers.
