Just got the DLO home to try and it is pretty basic control... should be a good replacment for when people have just an IW1 or something and had no control. The menus are pretty statice but there is a screen saver. YOu can engage it with a button push or set a time out that initates it. Still would be warning customers about it with plasma and CRT.

Didn't get a chance to use it with video files as Lee doesn't have any on her ipod.

Toggle buttons that would be nice to have discrets for..
POWER
Video Mode
Also if there was a code that could get you to the
Artiists
Alblums
Playlist
page

That would make it a little nicer for integrations.

The Sonace I port is a neat product. Ya compressed
audio sucks but lets stop being over critical.
If our customers want it, give it to them!! Odds
are they cant hear the little thing that we do.

Amen!

Sometimes we as professionals tend to forget that our customers are not always as 'sophisticated' as we are when it comes to quality of sound. If that were the case, they'd all be buying B&W's or Wilson Audio or whatever botique speakers we prefer for high-end.

Fact of the matter is, if a customer is an iPod user, then sell him an iPod solution! When I was a sales manager for CC, we use to teach our sales counselors (back when they actually KNEW something about the product they sold) the following:

"If a customer comes in asking for a Sony, and wants to see a Sony, then SELL HIM A SONY!!!"

Why? Because they've already convinced themselves that Sony is the best TV out there, and any disuading to the alternative would make you look like someone trying to sell them something they don't need that's in your best interest, not theirs. We would show them the 3 levels of Sony product (back then), S-series, V-Series, and XBR-series, explain the differences, and most would move up from S to V, and a few would even go with XBRs.

Moral of the story is....if your customer has an iPod, why cut off your own nose to spite your face? Find the best solution for THEIR needs (in our case, we use Sonance iPorts), explain the differences, explain WHY the fidelity isn't going to be fantastic, then let them decide which feature set they want in their control/dock station.

"Here endeth the lesson."

I installed a mad system on Friday and had to incorporate the customers iPOD into it. As the AV amp was an Onkyo (Excellent amp for the price) there actually make an iDock which can be controlled from the amp.

Just wondering what a mad system is involving Onkyo and an I-Pod?

no one has mentioned C-4. One thing that really impressed me at the seminar last year was the fact that you could play at least 3 different songs from the Ipod simultaneously with OSD on the TV's.

anybody using that & are the bugs out? (or should I start a new thread?)
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..

The main problem with c4 ipod integration is that it just uses the Ipod as a usb hard drive. All of the music on the Ipod has to be non DRMed MP3s. Must customers who have Ipods are downloading music from itunes.

I have the same problems as everybody else as far as sound quiality, but there is no denying the popularity of the ipod. I try to convince my clients to go the other way around, i.e high quailiy music ripped for an audio server, then use that on the Ipod.

Just an FYI, Netstreams' Digilinx product now has full support for the Iport through a Medialinx. Just plug the Iport into the Medialinx and you can drop it right on the network. Stream to any room with full 2-way control from any interface.

I've installed the DLO Dock and I was pretty impressed with it for what it was.

It's OSD through s-video (haven't used that in a while) was decent on a 61'' Samsung DLP.

The audio output is much higher than the Kensington Docks. Personally, I'll never use a standalone dock other than this one ever again.

It's just easier not to run into the headaches like the low line output and no OSD.
