There are a lot of different ways to Conect the ipod into an AV or multiroom system(Docks, Hard wireing with stereo mini to rca, FM transmitters, ect). I'm curios what most installers are useing? What sort of problems have you run into while experementing for the best solution? Are you wireing houses with ports to connect to in different locations throughout the house. I'm mostly looking for audio solutions but if you've found cool ways to intergrade the video Ipods into systems that info would be apreciated as well. Customers love there Ipods ,and understand how to use them, so being able to use them with the expensive new equipment that we've just installed will be a great benifit. Thanks for any info

A quick search turned up 5 threads in the last three weeks on this subject.
Luckily, we haven't had to do this yet - so far our customers have been happy with a mini plug lying on a shelf...

Dock from Ten Tech - uses Remote and stereo mini. You can go to the next playlist.
Dock from kensington - Uses remote and stereo mini. You cannot advance to the next playlist.
Dock from Ipod - Uses remote, has a tip, ring, ring connector (AV cord), cannot use a regular camcorder cable. Remote doesn't advance playlist.
I personnaly use the stereo mini.

the only thing i know of out right now that will truly integrate is crestron and amx, however russound, speakercraft, niles, audio access, and im sure many more have an interface coming out with metadata capability.

Not integrating them. I try to educate my clients on quality audio, even for distributed audio. We install Elan VIA DJ's for them and rip it at 320.

As far as quality 192 (variable bit rate) is the smartest thing to do(enough info, and smell enough to store on a HD, as far as the interface, ive been using Monitor AUdios toy to do it...

We are installing the iPORT's. Although I find it funny that the IW2 is limited to a 15' (despite the Sonance materials that state 20', straight from engineer at S.) run that, after pulling through walls, limits install to within feet of system, yet has IR. Plant in line of sight? By the way, I could care less about compression. I don't own an iPOD but, my clients love theirs, don't understand or know better and the checks don't bounce.

I use a 3.5 to rca.......to compare it to an escient(or equivelant).
After the demo, I haven't had one person want one.
