OK OK US gen X-er's love our MP3's its a fact. I happen to own a 60gig 5th Gen ipod and have done a few sound quality tests with different file compression formats. AAC is Apples MPEG4 audio, not bad. 192 is about as low as you want to compress music. 320 is the best bet for sound. Of course lossless .WAV sounds the BEST, but takes up WAY too much space. VBR is not bad also.

As for intergration, the best thing is a docking station. Apple claims the sound from the dock is "enhanced" than that of the earphone jack. So, I'd say any docking station that uses the bottom 30 pin cradle adaptor is you best bet.

i think all that it is, is the headphone jack is variable amplified made for headphones, and the jack on the cradle is made for line level rca output at a fixed volume level.

I use the Iport by Sonance. Built into wall. I have it hooked up to charge the battery. (I also ran coax for later versions for video). Have used it successfully with B&K CT600 and the ck1.2 keypads for multi-room operation. I also used the navipod attached to the Ipod with an emitter. Cusotmer is very satisfied.

Nope, the volume is still adjustable (variable) when the iPod (60Gig Video) is in the docking station.

The Sonace I port is a neat product. Ya compressed audio sucks but lets stop being over critical. If our customers want it, give it to them!! Odds are they cant hear the little thing that we do.

Hi, What video is available (playlist, tune playing, etc.) using the IW2 or IW3 iport & what cabling is necessary,I'm starting a pre-wire next week & would like to include this. The online installation manual didn't answer my video display questions.
Thanks

I installed a IW2 today about 20' from the cradle and it worked fine, except the video portion. Called iport but no luck. There answer was we have never had a bad on and try to call Apple. So not to sure about what you get with the video portion. As far as wiring we brought a set of line levels,a video, 16/2 for powering the cradle, 22/2 shielded for ir (cat 5 will be fine but i'm old fashioned). You can also run a S-video if you want.

My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

most of our current work has been all ADA systems, our current 3(next) jobs are also ADA equipment. we have been using (will be using) the ADA ipod dock, pretty cool. with different color leds and all.

i hate ipods, but realistic that i must embrace them. my wife owns one, my 2 kids own one, hell i even have an mp3 player, that being said i use mine for taking stuff into the truck or job site to listen to. i will be breaking down and getting me the ada ipod dock for my house. it will be hooked to my ada suite 16. it will have 2 different area's that it can be plugged into. kitchen and deck/pool.

i have used something from sonance (i think) for a couple low end audio systems we did. regardless it came from *v*d. nice peice worked well.

back a few years ago we just did a custom wall plate with 2 rca connectors that got hooked to the whole house sound. real simple mini 1.5 jack to cable that breaks out to rca. becomes a source for the zones....simple and it works.
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

I have set up a couple of Denon 4306s which have a iPOD input, internet radio and can access music files on the clients computer via an ethernet connection. Couple this facility with RS232 control (the amp) and you can use, for example, a T3 to operate an iPOD.

Works very well, the only short coming is that whilst audio is output from Zone 2/3, video is not. So you have to set up on the main zone.

Sonance has an on-line training that was pretty cool. At least they explained what every part # was capable of ie. IR passthru, Video capabilities etc. Try this web site it has all the basic info. Try calling Sonance, they have great tech support.

We've been waiting for the YDS-10. Part number for the Yamaha receivers RX-V459,559 & 659's. Basically its an Ipod dock that will throw OSD onto the TV for navigation. Looking forward to this.

Have used the Ten Tech. It's nice but no discretes.

All our systems have been getting the mini plug connection.
Manuals?! We don't need no stinking manuals! a.. er..

I use a 3.5 to rca.......to compare it to an escient(or
equivelant).

After the demo, I haven't had one person want
one.

Even if your tone deaf, spent half of your life
inside a bomb detonation facility,or tested jack-hammers for a living, the choice is clear.

Of course they sound bad, if you download at a high compression rate! So do the Escients, Via DJ's etc.

The choice is clear for a majority of the public too!

Do I spend $2,000.00 for a black box that will be a dinasuar(sp?) worth $400 in a couple years or $149.00 for something the size of a stick of gum, and can even sync-up with Microsoft Outlook, store digital photos etc.?

I am curious to see that DLO piece in the field. I get real anooyed with that whole... "Here is your very controalble reliable system that does most automation for you. Ohh next ipod song, walk your a$$ over to the wall port and select it on that crappy screen."

My biggest issues with ipods have always been:

1. Sound. They have crummy DACs. So the sound is awful. Higher bit rates can help but perfume on a pig.

2. The ability to only play back in one place at a time. No way to get a different stram to a different location. (Yeah I know that there are products that are now working on this.)

3. FAIR USE! That iTunes music store is the worst violation of Fair Use that has hit this level. I mean look at how quick will killed of DiVX from Jerkit $h!tY. We felt that we wanted to own our software. Not rent it and have it at the whim of others. Then we happily sign away fair use to only 5 computers with a PROPIERTARY PLAYBACK SOFTWARE. I cry fowl.

(Edited post) I had included a heated discussion about this very topic between me and a RIAA person.
