Hi folks,

Does anyone here have a good pcf for the DirecTV H10? I've had problems with this box on three jobs. In a nutshell, the H10 works fine via IR, and doesn't work at all for RF. I've even tried the new RFX-6500 with the same results.

I've had to use the Niles IR repeater system instead of the RFX, and I know I'm going to be running into this problem again in the future with more DirecTV boxes.

BTW, who oem's the H10 for DirecTV???

Thanks,

Dawn

If the system works fine with IR I don't thing you have a problem with the pcf file unless you haven't configurred the RF part properly. Phillips RF performance sucks anyway.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

I believe that Hughes is now responsible for all DirecTV boxes. And they are often suseptible to IR overload. Move the flasher around to see if you can find a better location.

I've had a few jobs with the same outcome on the H10 boxes. Works with IR, not with RF. Had to put in RTI to fix that issue. Personally I'm tired of spending extra time at jobs because Pronto's RF sucks.

OK I have to get in here. Regarding the Pronto RFX6500, those of you who are claiming that it sucks obviously have not used the product. I can tell you that I program several different products that use RF control and have seen all of them fail to work except the 6500. Thus far, I have been unable to cause it to fail in known hostile environments.
There seems to be a common misconception that Prontos are no longer reliable and that RF performance is not as good as the competition. For those of you who still have an open mind on the subject you might want to take a new look. And finally, I recently tested the H10/RFX6500 issue and found that the 6500 worked perfectly from a range of 70 feet with the antenna placed directly on top of the h10!

djsereno,

I agree with you regarding the RFX working most of the time, and with plenty of range, but there must be some combination that's causing H10 interference with RF.

Please list the components and displays within 10 feet of the H10 in your installation.

Thanks,

Dawn

It is all about the environment the rfx-6500 is used in. Rarely if ever work well in NYC - except for you LS. Some wi-fi networks are problematic, as well as some wireless phones. Dawn, is the rfx-6500's IR output overloading the H10's IR sensor? Are you in line of site of the rfx's ir flasher? If you are using one of the 4 ir flasher ports, did you try using a "single head" xantech flasher versus the double-headed ones supplied with the rfx? If you know the codes work when the pronto is set to IR for this device, but does not work when set to rf, check to make sure the channel and id settings on the Pronto match those on the rfx-6500 (those damn dials on the rfx are hard to read sometimes). If they match try other settings. If still no luck on all settings, you can always just yell and throw the bleeping rfx-6500 out the window and call it a day. Any professional with any common sense would do that after that much aggravation

Aaron,

I didn't try a single flasher. Everything else was checked out though.

No answer for the 6500 (I'm installing URC) but I have to say that DirectV's "bright" idea to supply their "house brand" (as opposed to leaving it up to other manufacturers) is a nightmare. I have literally installed thosands of sat jobs over the years and have always appreciated DirecTV over cable or Echostar (couldn't say enough bad about them) but now that Direct is foisting their crap (and the H10 is) on us, I may have to re-think my position. In the last week, all with one client, we had 3 DOA h10's. Miserable. Interface looks poor as well. Just one man's opinion.

Dawn,

As far as I know it is Samsung who makes the H-10.

I have one working perfectly with a TSU-7000 and RFX-6000.

Will email you the pcf as soon as I get back to office on the 27th.

Hughes makes the HR-10-250

It doesn't matter who makes the SAT, it being hughes, samsung, humax, they all use the same codeset. One that no other branded Directv SAT used before.

I have done several TSU 7K/7.5K with RFX 6000 and 6500s with no problems. The biggest thing about the new DirecTV boxes is that the emitter cannot be over the "eye" on the box, for me, puttign a Xantech single or dual mouse on the reciever next to the eye so that is covers the "720" resolution indicator works flawlessly.

In other words, putting the emitter too close to the sensor is a problem.

I also heard that the H10 is made by Samsung.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
