Does anyone know how to change the output (720P/1080i) of the HD8000 cable box or how to access the video menu's? I'm used to the Motorolas and Comcast.

TV on, Cable box off. Press and Hold Info and Guide on the front of the unit. Then follow on screen to set all supported resolutions. Then hope and pray and go into the regular menu using the remote and hope you find a passthrough setting. Some cable operators have it available, others dont. If they dont, you're going to have to stretch the SD stuff in the cable box. Page 9 here: [Link: scientificatlanta.com]

You might be lucky like over here in MN. Time Warner has finally gotten around to adding the "power on with numerics" option in the menu.
This essentially let you use the number 0 as a discrete ON command.

The HD setup trick only works on 8300 boxes in my experience... I hope I'm wrong for your sake...
On the Cablevision system, the 0 works without exit as a power on. If you push 0, and nothing else, it just flashes ???? a couple of times and goes to the last channel ( if you have the last channel option set in the menu)
Good luck

Where I am with Cablevision I am able to do the setup on all SA boxes. Upconvert 1 makes all signals 1080i and upconvert 2 makes everything 720p. Passthrough sends whatever resolution the station broadcasts in.

The exit is so you never see the ?????. And it works on the 3150 hd boxes also. Here anyway.
