Has anyone heard the rumour that Fujitsu is going to cease being in the plasma arena. Personally I don't believe it. Could it be rumours started by rival companies based on Fujitsu selling its glass panel plant? I hope it is not true as their screens a pretty damn good.

In my opinion their panel is the best out there.
I'm always right. The only time I was wrong was the time that I thought, that I was wrong.

Hitachi purchased part of Fujitsu's equity in the plasma plant. Now Hitachi owns the majority share.

Guys, this has been sooooooo put to bed over the past 6 months or so.

Trainer Dave AND the President of Fujitsu General America have posted on this VERY FORUM (and others) that Fujitsu General America will continue to sell the best plasma TVs just like they do now with no disruption or anything else. The ONLY difference is that Fujitsu General America will no longer be buying them from the Fujitsu General plant in Japan, they will be buying them from the Hitachi plant in Japan (same plant with same engineers and employees obviously). The sets will still be made to Fujitsu General America's standards and specifications with input from the US guys.

Fujitsu General no longer owning the plant (they only owned half before) has absolutly no effect or impact on the sales here. None.

With that said, I sure hope they dont pop up in BB and Magnolias. I know my rep pretty well and I am pretty sure that would not happen.

Umm... yeah, they pretty much built the name from scratch through AV6D...

All of the AV6D partners' rep firms were/are the Fujitsu consumer reps as well.

Not sure if you agreeing or dis-agreeing with me. My point was that he said Fujitsu was not available through distribution. I would certainly consider Av6D a distributor.

Yes, but they avoided national box stores until the Mini-Mag deal that kinda bent the rules, and they still have a very strict anti-online policy that they have actually stuck by. They flat out refuse warranty in ANY situation for internet purchase units.

Dave Fink (aka "trainer Dave") showed me the actual letter to some high-falutin' jackass that wrote in demanding "satisfaction" from the manufacturer for a failed panel.

To paraphrase, they replied that grey market goods and trans-shipped goods sold online are not warranted in any way, shape, or form, and to take it up with the place that sold him the broken plasma for a refund and seek out an authorized dealer for a replacement.

I rarely see balls like this from a speaker manufacturer, much less a VIDEO manufacturer!!

Well thats good to know!

Now that I think of it, I was checking on line the other day for a Fujitsu that I was quoting. Retail price was 10k. I think it was a 55". I checked on line to make sure I couldnt be shopped, and the lowest price I found was 12k for the exact same model #. Not sure what to make of that.

Why don't you call your local AVAD and say you're a new business and you want to sell Fujitsu. Or tell them you are an alarm company. Or tell them you sell a few plasmas a year. Or tell them you want to sell Fujitsu for any other reason. They'll hang up on you.

As said above, Fujitsu built their reputation and product on direct dealers and a few, very tightly controlled, AVAD distribution accounts. I have been in the room with my AVAD guys (the largest AVAD branch) when they were kicking off dealers for any reason. The room was a very exciting place to be in as they would call dealer after dealer.

Look, AVAD gets bashed here, and I can understand why. But AVAD does some good things for our industry. They know where their bread is buttered (as does Fujitsu) and they take things like Fujitsu very seriously.

And by the way, look at what I said that you quoted - I didn't say they aren't available in distribution. I believe I said disruption....................

Thats a disappointment Slim. Glad I don't have to compete there yet. Although it could be a blessing if they have a 63 on display - no way I'm putting a 63 on display in my house. :)
