Enough for this thread!

Oh! I see; use the "B" word, and then run for the tall grass.
(Just kidding twix, but it's a sure bet that when you say Blose, your thread gets legs of it's own.)

Actually Twix, if you're still there I would be curious to know if my theory holds water. What's your guestimate for how many people listen to BOSE (at your store) versus something good and thinks BOSE sounds better?

QQQ,

Bose as I said before provides you with a door. A door that you can proceed through and demonstrate to the client "what is out there". I would say that most people 7 out of ten will be able to tell the difference between Bose and your standard separate componets set up. Having it in store provides greater credibility and one must be open (minded)
.
Take a Bose 35 and set it up properly using the adapt-iq, then put in your demo. It is pretty scary how good it can really be.
Do I like it enough to own it...NO. Do I like it enough to sell it... YES. Will I switch a client... Maybe.

But my original question was related to the custom stuff and by every-ones reply's , there are few dealers. I just though that maybe because Bose uses the Pronto in their custom product line up that somebody in this forum could share their experiences with the product.

Adapt-iq, cd rom upgradable, pretty advanced stuff don't you think?

I hate Bose for Home (Klipsh, Polk and Velodyne in my home) and for PA equipment but I believe when Bose is in control of ALL of the variables, they can make sound decently, by this I mean some of their car systems, the Bose system in my Denali is pretty impressive for a factory system, it actually has decent Bass and highs from 11 speakers and I think 240 Watts. They were able to analyize the accoustics of the vehicle and make a system specifically for the interior of that vehicle.

And Twix, I saw that adaptIq thing and it is the type of thing every manufacturer should someday get into, play a reference test tone through the speakers and check the feedback from actual listener positions and automatically adjust to get back to a known reference.!?

That's what they do in the mall stores, too. They build a room around the speakers. Just as any audiophile knows, and most reputable dealers will tell you, speakers sound different in every room.

My sister, my own flesh and blood, fell into the trap. I begged her to listen to a couple of other speakers and systems. "But, they're so cute, and they sound good inside the booth at the mall!"

After I installed the system in her den, she said, "Why doesn't it sound like your system does?"

Heavy sigh.

LOL, so BOSE outsold you to your own sister! And you had to install them for her! I bet you're scarred for life.

Hey Larry, I hear your sister is a BOSE lover.

There is an anti Bose website. I am sure someone will post it but I was amazed how really awful those things are engineered. There is a whole range of freq. that they totally miss. It seems they also place a lot of demands on the dealers who demo them. If someone posts the website read it for a real laugh.

Found them!!!

Here's a couple of pennies I have to add...Canadian or American...

First off, to QQQ. I am a retailer as well and we have many people off the street looking for Bose. If I put myself in these peoples shoes heres where I'd be coming from: Joe Public states he's looking for speakers. By HUGE advertsing, the first thing he sees when he opens up his TIME, PLAYBOY, heck even GUNS AND AMMO...He sees BOSE. "HMM...must be good if they advertise this much..." That type of Philosiphy (sp?). Then Joe asks his budies, that most don't even own a stereo.."Joe, I heard them BOSEY speakers are good" Again, the advertising paid off.

Joe walks into my store, and all he want to see is BOSE. His wallet is burning full of green ready to pay for a set of BOSE. I bet..and I do mean BET!!! there are BOSE dealers out there that don't even have to play/hook up the damn things to sell 'em. THAT'S HOW EAGER THESE PEOPLE ARE TO HAVE BOSE. Back to the story. You should see peoples faces when I tell them we don't sell BOSE. (SIDE NOTE: We are pretty much the only specialty dealer in the area and people relate us to having the bext/expensive stuff...hear it all the time...) Here I (you) am "Jose Salesperson" climbing a steep hill trying to convince Joe Public that they shouldn't buy BOSE. Some people turn around and walk out. Most, give me a little of their time and I can convince them. Here's how I look at it: If they come into your store, to me that means they respect you. "These guys know what they are talking about, let me ask the experts". If someone walks into your store take that approach!!!!! I literally did this not to long ago: Joe Public walks in and asks "Where's your Bose?" I reply "most specialty retailers don't sell Bose. They are typically found at Sears, Best Buy." Joe turns around and heads for the door. I yell out "Why did you come here?" with a rude tone of voice. Joe replies "I though you guys have the good stuff". I reply " Well, wouldn't that mean something that I didn't sell Bose". He actually grabed the handle to the door, stopped, thought a minute, then asks well what do you have. My LONG point, don't give up...(I'm in Iowa) "If you show them they will listen".

Before I get off my soap box...here's my anaolgy:
Bose advertises a lot. A)Who is paying for the advertising: THE END COMSUMER. B) Mcdonalds advertises a lot...it must be good, right? Heck it's so good, you should eat breakfast lunch and dinner there...

Thanks for listening.

O.K real data!!!!

I served 3 couples today and I showed them Bose to start with because of product reconition. Out of the 3 couples 2 wifes perferred another choice HK,M&K package and 1 husband perferred the HK,M&K package. The other 3 sat on the fence. I was able to get a general consensus that the Bose was missing something when it came to music (lifestyle 35 )but for film I had less of a general agreement.

I just thought you might find that interesting, the rest of you probably said ....SUCKER... he works on Saturday!
